Floor mats lose color when cleaned.

Hi all,

I have carpet floor mats and vacuum cleaning them just doesn't work well enough. So I purchased a Bissell little green carpet cleaner and used it once so far. When using it I noticed that the water which was sucked back up was black and after the mat dried they looked visibly faded. I was using warm water and the carpet cleaner recommended by Bissell. Has anyone else had this experience? And does anyone have any advice? I may just buy rubber floor mats because I'm always going to live in a territory with four seasons and the CS functions essentially as a DD.

My sand mats pick up everything in the way of stains. The spot remover stuff- I think its called 'Wine away" works great for spots and and stains. You can buy it at any of the wine supply websites. I have been afraid to wash them due to past disasters such as you described

I had Audi TT with black factory mats. Used Simple Green,a scrub brush, & hosed them off. Hung them up in the sun to drain & dry. Never noticed any fade. Maybe your color is prone to fade.

The cleaner would not affect the color of your mats. You may have used too much detergent and not completely rinsed out the cleaner residue. The black solution you saw was probably dirt & excess fibers, which are normal on any cut-pile carpet. Cleaner residue will affect the appearance of any carpet. Just use clean water to rinse out any residue & your mats should be fine.
