...just got a one-year old CS, silver with cocoa brown leather (thanks Matt E.) and find that the "stainless" exhaust tips look like they're made of brass or copper...they are just about that color. Can the metal be cleaned back to original appearance, or am I committed to aftermkt. chrome? I know there are some highly effective metal polishes out there, but am wondering if it's possible to restore the appearance. I did a search on this but came up with not much help. Anyone?
There are several threads on this if you can find them. My recipe is to take them off, wash in a mild solution of muriatic acid/water, buff with a polishing wheel on the bench grinder then polish with a silver polish that I steal out of the kitchen supplies. They should then look very chromed. After that I use Stainless Steel Magic spray (Home Depot and other places) to keep them clean. Simple Green also has a stainless steel cleaner that I haven't tried.

Reason: proper product name is Stainless Steel Magic
Again, it sure is nice to be a part of such a classy group......have not seen any **** talk, just good info and dialog.....Just ordered the Fitz product you guys suggested.......the tip does look a little weathered already...just like my 2000 boxster S used to be.......
Thanks for the advice...
Yes, Flitz is great! I discovered it when learning how to clean the exterior of watches. I don't try to keep my CS's exhaust tip shiny (since I actually, oddly, prefer the weathered look), but I do use Flitz on my polished Tubi exhaust cans.

i use a polish called brasso... i used it for my stove and anything that's aluminum or stainless steel... works like a charm and makes it look brand new
Yes, Brasso has been around forever, hasn't it? I bet it's less expensive than Flitz, too. For watches, Flitz is great because it works on plastic crystals as well as metal. But I may try Brasso for the exhaust. Thanks!

So this is how it starts...., Let me explain.
I begin reading this thread and become inetrested in the replies, especially the one that talks about "chrome" tips. Ok so now you have my undivided attention, since I always thought chrome tips look great. So now i am thinking chrome tips ( pretty reasonable cost ) then my mind begins to race and i come up with ....If i do the chrome tips, i certainly can't stop there, I now need to add some more chrome accents to the car to even it off a bit and i go directly for the wheels......yeah, new chrome wheels that works.....what else??? Now what seemed to be a reasonable cost for a minor accent turns into an investment which requires mucho $$$$$.
Am i the only one who thinks like this??is there a cure? HELP.......
Funny, I'm the same way - I actually like the "used" or "weathered" look on the exhaust tip, too...
brad
Me too. It looks driven
