Ugh, have a big glob of tar on the carrera s wheels. Any suggestions on what products to use to remove? I've gotten most of the mass off but it is quite resistent.

Mineral Spirits from your local hardware store will work very well & a can is inexpensive.

WD-40 or non-diluted Simple Green + elbow grease should work. Don't forget to reapply Wheel Wax.

I've found WD40 to work very well, however...

Let it do the work. Spray it on, and let it disolve the tar. Rub very softly, and be very careful not to drag and rub the tar/grit into the paint. Spray, let sit for a minute, wide softly, repeat. Be patient and gentle.

WD40 is also good to get the cosmoline off and the glue from old wheel weights when you get your tires rebalanced.

Kerosene is effective. I think WD40 is mostly kerosene, so that 's why it works as well.

Yea, us old timers know kerosene is a great multi use cleaner.Cheap too. Wipe the surface clean with a damp rag after the tar is removed.

Are you sure that it is tar and not a gob of brake dust?

Anyway, 3M Adhesive Remover is great stuff. It doesn't hurt cured paint surfaces, like you wheels or you paint. But, you should wear protective gloves and wash the surface afterwards.

That's what I use for stuck bugs and road grime. Body shops use it. And it is often used to prep a car for applying a clear bra.

Hey, it even works to remove adhesive residue.
