I've done a search and I haven't been able to see anything on this topic so I thought I'd ask the group. Is it possible to wax too much? I have a Artic Silver CaymanS and have switched to synthetic wax from carnuba (since that is what the concensus is for lighter colored cars) and I tend to wax my car when I wash it which lately is once a week. With the bad weather we have had lately it needs a wash once a week.
It's probably not going to hurt the paint or clearcoat, but many layers of synthetic will start to cloud after a while, whereas you can put many coats of carnauba on a car and it stays clear. The guy who takes care of the show cars at the Blackhawk collection told me once that most of the cars have 32 coats of carnauba wax on them... they don't look abused to me when I've been there.

Thank you so much for your feedback, but I must admit I am so confused. I was told by friends and members of this forum that synthetic wax is the way to go on light color cars and now it would seem that carnuba is better for frequent use.

The question goes on...
why not just keep using the synthetic (as you've deduced), but don't wax it after every wash. i mean, do you really think the wax is going to "disappear" after one wash (heck, after 3 or 4, even)?
Fab is correct - the synthetic stuff lasts longer than the carnauba you're used to using... most synthetics last 4-6 months even with frequent washing. Unless you wash it with something that strips the wax coat off each time.
Waxing too much will cause build up and clouding. Not to mention if you are using a paste wax on a new car it will damage the factory clearcoat. If you must wax for peace of mind try the detailers spray wax after a wash. Just make sure you use a new or VERY clean microfiber cloth.

yes ... I do as Porsches4ed suggested ... in the Zaino system, this means I do the 3x coats of polish 2 or 3 times a year, and in between, I wash with a solution that won't strip the layers of polish (in this case Z7 car wash) ... and then for peace of mind I simply use the Z6 detailers spray. Finish holds up nicely, and you get more time to drive the car instead of so frequently waxing.
I wax my CS every week and I love it!!! With the number of coats on it and the size it is, I can do it in less than 1-1/2 hours. Having Meteor gray and I love the color, it looks fantastic and it's therapy for the mind.
I've been sticking to the Zaino process twice a month since December "06 and have had great success. During the week I use the Z-6 spray with a cotton towel, I'm still concerned about introducing defects with a micro towel...Anyway, I was planning to use the Zaino PC Fusion in May to start the whole process over again. Maybe sooner if I notice something different...

Lets clear up a few things ...
If your using a synthetic, its not wax ... its is a synthetic sealant. If you use something like Klasse SG, it lasts a LONG time, up to a year, and is acrylic. Others are not acrylic.
Synthetics can be layers as many Zaino owners do many layers Carnauba CAN be layered over Klasse SG and very popular right now. The Carnauba will give a deeper shine. However, with artic silver, like I was asking, you really want a synthetic to get the "pop" factor.
Yes, some ppl do a million layers of carnauba but its questionable if they are really doing anything other than wasting their time ... To each their own
I have an AS car. And synthetic won't get the depth and clarity that I get from carnauba. It has to do with how well the car is prepped, and what the quality is of the product used.
Really good carnauba shouldn't cloud.

That is the point. With the carnauba is get depth but the shine doesnt pop out. With synthetic, not so much depth but shinier. Its a matter of taste.
