This is my first post. I am currently riding on 235 40 18" Pilot Alpins in the front and 255 40 18" Pilot Alpins on Sport Cup Wheels that I got from Tirerack. On the highway when it is windy the car really seems to be affected by the wind (at 85+)to the point that it is a little disconcerting. Has anyone else experienced this? This never happened with my 2004 Audi S4. Otherwise I absolutely love the car.
Not to discount your question, but I've had similar experience with various sports cars based on tire composition and tread pattern following grooves in the concrete. It can really yank the wheel, depending on conditions. Could this be part of the problem? Just something to consider.

Yes it can be the tires for sure.
Also lighter cars are more blown-about in my experience. If you are used to driving a 3700 lb sedan and go to a 2500 lb sports car, there is a BIG different in how a gust can feel.
You may also just feel it more through the more responsive steering of the Porsche versus the disconnected steering of an everyday auto.
I travel this section of highway frequently and it doesn't happen unless it is windy. This is an awesome section of road that has just been widened and repaved with little traffic. It is also very straight so it is easier to spot any speed traps.

I have felt this as well on smooth roads. Keeping a steady speed of 85 on a straight road, there is a very slight lateral movement in the car. It is as if a force is applied perpendicular to the car, then suddenly released. I do not feel this in my much heavier GS430. I am sure it is the weight.
i feel the car being a little loose at high speeds but nothing abnormal. i wish the steering wheel was stiffer. no power steering for me well maybe a little

That is disconcerting to me. I drive a M3 now and find it remarkably stable at higher speeds. I do slow down in real windy conditions. I would think that a Cayman, Cayman S, or any porsche would possess great stability at high speeds, and certainly 85 mph is not really high for a Porsche.
Are you saying that you notice the car being a little loose, even not in the wind? I just ordered a Cayman S and stability at speed is important to me. That is all part of the package that I would think the Cayman S would have. Am I wrong here?

Sounds to me like it might be tire pressures and/or alignment... or it could be the road surface. There's a grooved stretch of I-15 South outside of Las Vegas that has very wavy grooves, and the car really wants to wander because of the sticky tires. Otherwise, if the car is working and set up right, you have nothing to worry about. I've routinely run for more than 2 hours continuously at serious triple digit speeds, even in some wind, through the Nevada desert, and the car is very stable. I've had no problems with it in that regard whatsoever.

I was driving back from Palm Springs Tuesday and definitely noticed the car being tossed around in the wind quite a bit even while I was stopped at a light. That was bad but the dessert sand blowing across the highway at my car was worse
No, the car is very stable otherwise. It is just when it is windy.
