Front Lip Question

Can you order the front lip prepainted in the body color from the factory? Or does it have to be painted at the dealership? I contacted a dealer and they said it only comes in aluminum or black.the only way is that they can have the their shop paint itand it doesn't come painted from the factory.... Is this true?

I believe it was a later "x" option in '06 and is standard in '07 for new cars but I think you are asking about replacement lips? If so I'd get a second opinion from one of our dealer sponsors.

The '06 MY had those lips painted titanium; a touch-up color is not available from Porsche. I understand that for MY '07 the base Cayman has black lips, and the CS comes with body color. Having gotten a bit of 'road rash' on mine ('06), I bought replacement lips (black plastic) and spray cans of Arctic Silver (my body color), first primed them, then color coat, then clear coat. Replaced the original units, which I will keep for spares. Will fill, sand, and paint them. If you wish to do such a thing, prior threads tell where to get the paint and how to remove the lips. PM me if you want more info.

r6tanz, my '07 Cayman will be delivered in about 3 1/2 weeks. I ordered it with body-colored spoiler lips, at an option price of $520.00. You may be able to order pre-painted spare lips (I don't know if they are available), but you can certainly have yours painted the color of your car. I did not like the look of the black lips, and am glad that I ordered the body-color lips. 987f

Something to consider: If you get spoiler lips in body color you may want to consider putting some 3M clear bra material on at least the leading edge. That area gets chipped by road debris very easily.

Sorry r6tanz, either my trigger finger was too quick, or my computer was too slow! 987f

I don't know if yopu can get lips from the factory that are pre-painted. Dealers can paint them for you (silver/aluminum) and will charge in the neighborhood of $110 each. If you purchase them unpainted they are around $35 each and you can take the lips to any body shop for the paint or DIY.

You can certainly buy them unpainted from a dealer. They are in the parts catalogue. Whether or not a dealer will paint them probably varies among dealers. Many do no body work. But any body shop can paint them. Earlier threads reported the price for painting, as I recall. I just bought paint from PaintScratch and did it myself.

This is the standard anywhere. Replacement parts come in not painted, normally primed, ready to be painted. What's wrong with the dealer painting them? The painting process for a small plastic part like that shouldn't be much different at the dealer than it would at the factory.
