Anyone use ethanol-blended gasoline?

Here in Canada we can buy a brand of fuel with 10% ethanol (Husky/ Mohawk). The octane rating is 94 and it's marketed as being suitable for high-performance engines. I see that Porsche says on their website that all their sports cars can use fuel with up to a 10% ethanol content, and that the Cayenne can now use up to 25% ethanol. http://www.porsche.com/canada/aboutp...o2-diskussion/

The stated advantages are primarily environmental, but some performance advantages are claimed as well... such as reduced pinging and natural gas-line anti-freeze protection. (Neither of which have ever been an issue for me). http://www.myhusky.ca/husky_for_you/...nol_facts.html

I've been buying 94 octane Chevron, but I'm considering switching over to the ethanol blend for a few tankfuls to try it. Has anyone had any firsthand experience... good or bad... with ethanol blended gas?

Most gas in the US now contains Ethanol. At least in the largest, most polluted cities (they require a formulation called RFG, which, with the MTBE ban, leaves only Ethanol (ETOH) as the only viable oxygenate).

Generally, not a problem using gasoline with ethanol. I live in Houston and we have RFG here, and have been using it for years on other cars requiring Premium gasoline with no problems.

There's a new type of gasoline called E85 which will NOT do much good in high performance engines.

Hope this helps.

Ole Joe

Up to 10% will be fine, as the Porsche Web site says. E85 will ruin your motor.

To my understanding, all gas sold in the States contains 10% ethanol. It is a matter of time it will increase to 20%. Car manufactures including Porsche have to adapt to survive.

Thanks Joe, Brad and Conrad... I'll fill up with the Husky 94 today. I used to use the 92 octane ethanol blend in my Jeep years ago... it seemed to like it... but I hadn't been using it in the Cayman because of something I recall reading in the owner's manual... which I don't have in front of me right now. However, it appears there's no reason to avoid using it.
