Hit a deer this afternoon....

DOH!!!

How about a new category on here for wrecking your shiny new car??

Grazed a deer on the passenger side this afternoon. Came around a bend, she jumped out - nothing could be done. Pass mirror is gone and the rear quarter panel is a bit bashed in. I will post some pics a little later.

Got a police report saying it was a deer.

Now we need to deal with insurance and finding a good body shop to get her looking pretty again. Rear quarter is never fun...

So has anyone had experience with body shops?? SHould I call the delaership and see whom they recomend? Living in MI, most shops don't specalize in "foreign" cars....

Thanks,
-Kyle

Ugh! I had a close call with a deer as well. I'd suggest contacting your local PCA for recommendations on repair shops. Best of luck.

I had a close call with a camel. You want to avoid close calls with camels. They been known to total cars upon impact.

Youngn - That is EXACTLY what happened to the car! Doh.

Tell me more... What happened for you? Deer? What did they need to do to repair it? I am not sure if they pound that out, or if they cut and replace the quarter panel. Approximate cost?? etc... Spill your guts!! LOL

Sorry to see this happened to you. Bad things happen to good people.

I am going to Mackinac island at the end of May, I hope deer stop screwin' by that time and jumpin out of the woods or I might have to take my Magnum. You guys in MI get a lot of those dinners on legs hitting your cars.

i am here to help. I was driving at 5 in the morning when i saw a deer about 20 feet off to the side of the road just standing there. So i continued driving at about 50 mph then the deer just randomly started running out. I swerved hard to the left but it still ran into my side and that damaged happened.

The shop said they were ordering a new quarter panel but it was on back order but tell whatever shop you go to that if they remove that side vent....the have enough room to pound it out(that's what they did to mine when they figured they couldnt get the quarter). Being that a deer hit you and you have proof through the police report....insurance should cover that I didnt have a police report but had a clear mud hoof print under the side vent to prove it.

hope that helps you and hope everything goes well...i've already been through the exact same situation as you so i know how you feel

but then there is also a broken mirror and if the shop does good enough paint work then you may never have known that car was repaired...the side in the picture is the side that my accident was on. You can get as close or as far as you want to the picture and cannot tell the car was repainted at all

I have a feeling we are bryond the paintless dent repair process... there is a good inch of crown that must be pulled back out.

Lisa was driving the car when it happened. Scared the hell out of her. She was on a bend with woods coming right up to the road. One jumped in front of her (that she missed) and its friend just plain jumped into the side of the car... It lived, but I am sure it has a good shiner or two.

Youngn - That is a great idea bout pulling off the vent to get at the inside. I was thinking about them cutting and welding in a new quarter... But if that gets put on a boat from Stutgart... that could be a long wait. We'll have to see what they say.

Kyle

Sorry to hear about this bad luck. You guys did great to avoid more serious damage and thankfully nobody was hurt. I have heard/seen numerous horror stories around by me of people hitting deers. Some of the "carnage" is quite surprising regarding just how serious these collisions can be. I know that when I drive home in the dark through the forest preserves I am now very cautious of deer grazing just off to the side of the road.

I hope the Cayman gets fixed up as good as new.
