I was pleasantly surpried today when I saw a basalt black Cayman parket outside the showroom. I took it for a test run. FYI...I drove in a 911 S with tip for a while before driving Cayman. Here are my first impressions:
-911 and Cayman are two completely different cars.
-911 feels much heavier than Cayman. It also feels powerfull, but nore I am comparing with a 911S.
-Cayman felt very light. Handled much better than 911. Raw power is respectable.
-Interior on Cayman felt not as roomy as 911 for obvious reasons. Ride comfort felt better in Cayman vs the 911. They both had 19s.
-I did not like the look of the standard audio system. It looks outdated. I am not sure why the PCM is not standard on Cayman like the 911.
-I prefer the 911 interior better than Cayman.
-Exterior design is better on Cayman. It looks new, modern, youthful and updated compared to 911. 911 is an iconic / classic design.
-I think on an average, Cayman will consumer 3-4 gallons less than the 911.
At the end, they are both great cars. It is a matter of personal preference. If one likes and gets use to the Cayman, I highly doubt that they will ever upgrade to 911. On the other hand, 911 fans will always buy 911.
I am glad I went with plain black exterior color. Silver looks nice as well.
K-Man-S, I think PCM (Porsche Communication Management) is standard on the Carrera. What is not standard is the Navigation module which costs about $2,000.

This is true for the Carrera S but not the none S.
so, you spend $900 more for PCM in the Cayman than the base 997. Doesn't seem bad. Think it goes to where Porsche sees the Cayman fitting into the lineup as to why it's not standard. An option here, an option there, pretty soon you're priced at the 911 level. I never planned on addingPCM, viewed it as an unnecessary frill. Now, I'm having second thoughts if sat radio is offered.
Carmon Red, PCM in Cayman is almost a $3K option and comes standard with the Nav. PCM without Nav is included with the 911. There is about $2K additional cost for the Nav.
