although i've had my Cayman for only 6 weeks, i've been challenged to street races several times, typically by irresponsible and immature ricers in either Hondas or Acuras (although there has been the occasional Subaru WRX STI and Mitsubishi EVO). i never bite...i just let them do their thing and hope nobody gets injured.
however, early this morning (about 4:15), i was challenged by a Ford Aerostar minivan. he was in front of me and as i attempted to pass, he would block me by changing lanes. i grew tired of his behavior and accelerated passed him until i caught up with some other cars...to place some distance between us. he eventually caught up and worked his way passed the other cars and got in front of me (i was traveling at the posted speed limit because i know that five-o is frequently hiding). he then sticks his arm out of the window with his index finger up saying he won and is #1. what an idiot. the whole series of events was simply ridiculous.
i guess that this is one of the undesired issues that we have to deal with. how have you guys (and gals) handled similar situations?

I actually pull off the road and let some distance between me and the offending AH develop. I can understand the "youngsters" wanting to race, but the psychopaths like the one you describe in the minivan are the ones that really scare me.
My brother has a GTO and he gets challenged every time he is in his car. I really have not witnessed that yet except that a guy in a Hyndai Tiberon tried to get my attention last week. A Hyndai, come on?! I've noticed that most people cant tell the difference between a base Boxter and a 997TT and am guessing they just know not to bother.
I get challenged in both my CS and on my motorcycle. Seriously dude...your stock V6 mustang is not going to beat me...see you at the next light...maybe. Oh and yes...some girls do know how to drive and ride and can beat you off the line.
As for the situation on the highway, I agree with dave. I usually slow way down or pull off the road. Some people are nuts out there.

It dosn't matter if they can beat you or not, most have this ego issue and probably jealously. They like to brag that their cheap Evo beat a Porsche so therefore Porsche's suck. I see it all the time. They won't say it but most of those kids are jealous and that is their only defense that can muster to stroke their ego.
I say who cares and let them think what they want, putting other people in danger by street racing is not a smart idea. My car is for me to enjoy and know that I can beat some and some I can't, but it doesn't matter. Hey if they want to race why not ask them to meet you at a track, LOLOL see how confident they really are in their car or van. LOL

Glad to see that you didn't play into his wishes. Immaturity at its finest. You just never know about some people, one of my friends brother's got threatened with a gun when he challenged some road rager. You just never know. Better to be the bigger person and ignore than to play into thier hands.
