Please help. i can't decide between a fully loaded 2006 boxster s or a loaded cayman s. i drive a 2003 boxster s currentley and wonder if i'd miss the open top driving experience
2. Are you interested in better handling & performance?
I personally don't like ragtops as much as coupes. That is why I never purchsed a Boxster. So when the Cayman came out and with better performance it was a no brainer.
Good luck!

guess i do like the look and i do use the rag top as much as possible, keep thinking i at least get the best of both worlds with a boxser s. also, i've test driven a cayman and i wasn't blown away by the engine sound from inside the cabin unlike a boxster which i thought sounded better

This is the first person who I think has said this, I've driven the 987 Boxster S and Cayman S back to back and the Cayman clearly had more engine and exhaust volume. I'm not trying to sway you towards the Cayman if you like convertibles go with the Boxster, just don't make the mistake that a Boxster with hardtop = Cayman S because that simply isn't true.
I imagine you could get a better deal on a Boxster.
I first started looking at convertibles and that's what got me looking at the new Porsche Cayman. If you want a convertible then you have your answer. If you want the best performing sports car that Porsche (or anyone else) makes in this class, then it's a Cayman.
Some folks plan to drive a car for a long time -- others just drive it until change in moods. We feel that may help you decide. First of all, whether you buy a Boxter S or a Cayman S, it is usually for a short span of time for some people. For others, it may be for years and years. We believe any car retains value for the person who may want to change; for us that meant to look for a car which has a better retained value, and we feel strongly that the Cayman S has this all over the Boxter S. Only time (perhaps a couple of years) will tell, but please take a good look at the loan/trade in/retail values of a used Boxter and a case can be made that a new Boxter against a new Caymanoffers an easy decision to go with a Cayman. Just my $.02, but that is from a person who has never considered a Boxter in any year, and was the first to order a Cayman S, which was delivered today.
I just made the exact switch you are talking about, '03 Boxster S to '06 Cayman S, man what a difference,I'm ecstatic with the Cayman. Dont miss the convertible, dont miss the rattles. I have owned a number of Boxsters and Boxster S since '99 (#4, 3 of them S) before that I owned a Supra double turbo ('93). The acceleration of the Cayman is the same as the Supra only smoother. The 320 hp Supra would be a bit weak at first and then when the first turbo would catch on, hold on, because soon after that the second turbo would kick in and ,the best word to describe the acceleration isfrantic. The Cayman with ,similar or better numbers to 60 depending on who you read, has more torque at the very bottom and ,while not frantic, gets the job done. I for one do not regret the switch one bit. Frankly I've been missing this kind of acceleration since my Supra.
