Porsche Logo Porsche voted #1, Again!

Porsche news just keep getting better and better. Cayman and Boxster owners should be proud.

Thursday 07/05/07
Porsche Ranked Highest in J.D. Power and Associate’s 2007 Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout Study

Representing the latest in a string of consumer studies documenting the high regard U.S. consumers have for Porsche, J.D. Power and Associates’ 2007 Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) StudySM today rated the brand number-one overall, for the third year in a row. The Study, now in its 12th year, measures owner delight with the design, content, layout and performance of their new vehicles. *
“We are proud to again be recognized so significantly by J.D. Power and Associates,” said Peter Schwarzenbauer, president and CEO, Porsche Cars North America. “Having been ranked best nameplate in the organization’s Initial Quality StudySM (IQS) earlier this month, we have reaffirmed our standing as the brand of choice for consumers and industry experts alike.”

Porsche received an overall nameplate score of 849. Both the Porsche Cayman and the Porsche Boxster remarkably held their APEAL standing for two consecutive years as the number one and two models, respectively, in the Compact Premium Sporty Car segment.

APEAL measures how gratifying a new vehicle is to own and drive. The Study is designed to complement the IQS study, which focuses on problems experienced by owners during the first 90 days of ownership.

“In both the APEAL and IQS studies our customers have demonstrated their absolute satisfaction with the design and performance of our vehicles,” noted Schwarzenbauer. “These achievements emphasize the excellence and innovation we bring to every car we build.”

The 2007 APEAL Study is based on responses gathered between February and May 2007 from more than 91,000 purchasers and lessees of new 2007 model-year cars and trucks who were surveyed after the first 90 days of ownership.

Thank you for the information Daytona! I found the following statement within the article to be truly awe-inspiring:

Simply stated, consistency counts with everything you do. Something American automobile manufacturers have yet to master.

Whenever I do mention to people that Porsche Leads the JDP surveys, most simply dont believe it. I guess everyone is stuck on Lexus being the standard bearer....and people wonder why I want a porsche!

I've found when I mention this (Porsche ranking) to my non-Porsche owning friends, they accept it immediately after seeing my CS (especially after riding in it). They usually carve out the "Cayenne" exception though... linked to the VW Toureg, initial ratings by Consumer Reports, and the "value proposition" v. X5.

Remember that there are multiple JDP survey categories. "Initial Quality" is one of the the most commonly quoted categories for instance, and Lexus does quite well in that one. It's important to keep in mind when someone is talking about the standing of their Lexus or whatever other manufacturer they favor in a JDP survey.
