Angry Rev Limiter

Hit the rev limiter for the first time yesterday while listening to the sweet sound of the flat 6. Feels about the same as hitting a stone wall. Try not to do it.

I did it for the first time the other day after having owned my CS for more than a year. Really pissed myself off letting a damn fool like myself drive such a fine car. I was running the car up through the gears because I don't do that very often (I baby my CS a lot) and I just flat forgot to shift up before the rev-limiter reminded me that it was now too late to do so. When it happens, it feels like you have really done something BAD. Good thing it's there though. Way back in the early 1970's my dad over-revved his 1969 Porsche 912 while passing a school bus on a country road. It cost him a nice little rebuild.

So - what is the experience like. Did the engine cut out completely and needed re-starting ?. Not sure what you meant by"hitting a stone wall". Please provide a little more details and thanks in advance

I haven't had my Cayman yet, but it seemed to me that only Sportchrono people would `hit a stone wall' where non-sportchrono guys will have a soft ceiling.

I've done it twice, and if feels like the fuel has been cut off (which may actually be the case), and it just dogs out. In my case, it just picked right back up again.
In both cases, I just wasn't paying enough attention, and in both cases, I felt like the good driver police were going to make me return the car.

Agree w/ above description. It sputters, like a clogged fuel line, though I believe what it's doing is cutting the ignition. Good news is that it does no damage, but it does record it in the computer log (also logs full throttle accelerations, and alledgedly communicates w/ Germany via a T3 line each time the service department hooks you to their OBD computer -- scary that Germany may be tracking how each of our cars are driven...)
