No DFI for 2008...

Okay, I am merely the messenger here so keep the ropes to yourself.

I just got back from the dealership on the same day they were having a delivery of vehicles, all of which were 2008s. Most of them were Cayennes, but there was one 911 Targa and one Cayman S. I asked if I could see the sticker of the Cayman and they wouldn't let me back to the prep area since these were sold cars, but the salesman told me that there is NO mechanical differences between the 2007 and 2008.

Now, again I didn't get to see any of this myself, so I am taking the guy at his word, but he has never told me anything that was false. I asked him repeatedly if there were any differences including DFI and he told me there were no differences.

On a positive note, if you're expecting a MY2008 Cayman S and were expecting delivery at Momentum Porsche for late July/early August, your car could be at the dealer. Call your salesguy to check in.

your saleman was correct in the 2008 model line up. Also as a side note 2008 production at the plants will last till at least next summer, so DFI if in "09" is still at least 12 months away

I'm expecting my car in October and would only be upset if the change was made shortly thereafter. No problem if it's next year, that's a long time away. I wonder if there is a facelift though, if he only mentioned mechanical changes.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that as well. No facelift for 2008. Only changes are in the interior and exterior colors.

Welcome to the CaymanClub tim0s002! Please feel free to make yourself at home during your stay. Simply stated, Direct Fuel Injection (DFI) adds to the vehicle’s fuel efficiency and horse power. Also, our search feature is top notch. K-Man S wouldn’t have it any other way. There are quite a few threads out there that may peak your interest. Enjoy!

Wush,
That's not what you said before, before you said you expected a 20hp gain for the 2008 models, have you changed your expectations now?

See: Hot rumor

Welcome to the Cayman Club!

To answer your question, Direct Fuel Injection (DFI), is a new technology that Porsche states can cut fuel consumption by up to 15 percent, while increasing power by up to 13 percent. DFI cuts emissions by warming up the catalytic converter more quickly, and ensures a sharper throttle response. Better for your right foot - and the planet, then.

DFI allows much more precise measurement of fuel supply and injection at pressures up to 120 bar; it has numerous combustion modes, with different cycles for cold-starting, low-speed driving and performance driving.

There was speculation that since this was added to the 2008 Cayenne that all 2008 models were going to get it. Now it would seem it will wait until possibly the 2009 model when the Cayman gets a facelift.
