tale of one week at the dealer

took my 07 2.7 to the dealer for a trnk clunk case, engine ticking, rattle from both seat belt mounts, crazy 14.2 city mpg(2.8 k), the guys are great there(new country porsche of greenwich), so the car spends a week there(toyota camry loaner), nice stereo, i get a call from my sa the car is done. they(think) they got to the clunk, car needed 3/4 oil the ticking is much lower now, no rattle, reset computer for mpg after break in period. now, the clunk is still there, ticking is the way it was, rattle is there, and the car average 14.6 now. so i made up my mind to just live with it since it all doesn't take away much from enjoying this beauty.

Porsche engines do "tick" to some. A lifter would be suspect but your dealer would have found that.
Try removing the privacy screen to see if that helps the hatch noise.
Gas mileage is a function of the right foot and or city driving. Try going to the country and do a long drive and see if your mileage doesn't improve.

Also, and this may be either painfully obvious or not applicable: mpg is appalling for the first couple miles after a cold start, so if you're starting the average from cold start and only driving 3-4mi you'll get, well, 14.6mpg.

I just took mine in for the same thing. The dealer said that he fixed the "clunk" but he didn't. He said that the engine ticking was normal. We'll see. I had a Boxster and never heard that kind of ticking . . . but the engine wasn't "in the room with me" either.

I agree. I have had the same experience consistently with my '04 SL 500. Right after turning it on, the mpg reading will be about 6 mpg. After about 15 or so miles it gets to about 19 mpg, as far as it will go. As for the clunk, I have it occasionally, but try to pretend that I don't hear it! I'd rather not have the dealer mess around with it. It's not a big thing, and I never seem to hear it when I'm driving vigorously. 987f
