thats how long it took me to hit 2000 miles. for the past 87 days i've excercised an enormous amount of self-discipline in not exceeding 4200 rpm (i regularly hit 4000 rpm, but never 4200).
on my way home from the office yesterday, when i was a couple of miles away from the house, i notice the odometer at 1999. i kept an eye on it and when it hit 2000, i was tempted to "celebrate", but there was too much traffic. when i pulled into the driveway, the odometer read 2001. i guess that i'll have to "celebrate" later in the week.
how long did it take you guys and gals to hit 2000 miles? what did you do to celebrate the end of your break-in period?
I'm a newbie also... and I, too, have not seen the bright side of 4200 rpm -- yet. But you raise an interesting idea.. what to do when I roll the odometer over 2K.... Hmmm.... I'm seeing... red(line) for sure.. !
maybe send in a registration for a "track day" ??
D&D
Just a "C", but lovn' it..
I'm only at a little over 400 miles, but I've already "celebrated" a bit---on several occasions, I've let the tach needle hit 5,000 for an instant. It really growls! 987f

hi garrett...it took me just under 5 weeks to hit 2000miles...i was driving it everywhere i could, so i could get the break-in over with, so i could flog it at the scca test-n-tune event- THAT'S how i celebrated
now that you're past the 2k mark, time to rev the engine to redline and hear the sweet music the engine makes...
My CS has about 750 miles now after 5 weeks.... I just returned from the dealer...they added the front license plate bracket for me...and while there I too lamented about the 4200 rpm breakin... several mechanics chimed in saying the restriction is to not CRUISE above 4200...but in fact we should be regularly excerising the engine up close to red line to better seat the valves. I asked "Are you sure?" and every one agreed... accelerate to your heart's content...just don't hang there for any period... Someone want to confrim this with another service department?

page 19 of the owners manual says "Do not exceed maximum engine speed of 4200 rpm (revolutions per minute)."
I'm just quoting the service mechanics (and my salesman too)....That's why I seeking confirmation... Silicon Valley people tend to think on different wavelenghts sometimes... I want to make sure before I go for it....

Let's see. Today is Tuesday and I've had the car since 6/7. On Sunday, I hit 2001 on I-16, at 2002, I was doing 105 in third in the process of passing a car. This happened 3 more times when I got behind someone only doing 70. So, quick and such a nice sound. It's addictive...

poser, only 5 weeks? so how long has it been since you clocked 2000 miles? not to worry, i'll be stretching the cayman's legs in short order.

i just notice that this is my 100th post!
What happens if say you don't follow this rule? The salesman I got mine from says it's okay to run em hard. In fact, I got a demo ride before we purchased and got to see 6,000 a couple times before I even took the wheel. I spin my lawn tractor up to 4000 rpm.
There's a million posts and opinions on this. It really boils down to do you follow the recommendations of the manufacturer or the random mechanic/salesman/web poster.
I figure for the money I paid, I'll listen to Porsche.
