Cheap Oil change....only $197 bucks!

Okay so this is SLIGHTLY misleading. Slightly.

I took my CS in for its first oil change at 4500 miles. I have read other threads about how to instruct the service adviser on JUST changing the oil versus doing a first service (cabin filter etc.). So I did just that. Now, add in a simple NC state inspection and waaaaala you have yourself a $197! invoice.

If anyone wants to see a PDF of the invoice, let me know.

It says 9 quarts of oil at $8=$72. One hour of labor at $90, some dollar for the filter, $2.00 for the seal....and I forget how much for the inspection.....something like $50.

I paid it, because I was in a hurry and was REALLY late. But once I settled down.....I thought I would let everyone else know the going rate.

I am pretty blown away. I guess I got used to that full coverage warranty on the BMW where its all covered.

Thats one reason I do my own oil changes. I get better prices on Mobil 1 and no labor charge. Even though Porsche recommends 20k miles, I do mine every 7k miles.
Gonna flush the brake fluid this weekend too, that'll cost me less than $15 using ATE Super Blue.

I got a deal with mine ... four years/48000 miles worth of changes every 5000 miles for $1400. I'm at 25k, so I've already broken even . Don't forget to get your PCA discount from them. That takes 15% off the top.

Not all dealers give PCA discounts & those that do decide how much. E,g., my dealer (Parktown Imports) is currently giving a 20% PCA discount on service parts & labor making them equal to or less than the independents.

My DIY oil change costs about $60, takes about 30 minutes & most important, I find it enjoyable.

That's rape but still better to do it at 4500 than not... I did my first oil change at 4650, btw. Bought filter at dealer (~$30) and took to my favorite german independent (who supplied the synth oil), drained & changed, all for $100. So $130 total.
