Where is the Cayman made?

Does anyone know where the Cayman is constructed? I understood that it was in Norway, in town/city called "Valmet" Not sure of the spelling!

Does anyone have more accurate info?

My understanding is that Porsche has several assembly plants and the eleventh character in the VIN # represents the assembly plant.

The following letters indicate the location:
L-Leipzig
S-Stuttgart
N-Neckarsulm
U-Uusikaupunki (Finland)

I do not know if only one assembly plant is dedicated to the Cayman but my VIN indicates it was assembled in Finland.

Yes, they are made in Uusikaupunki Finnland, but Valmet Automotive. That is designated by the 'U' in your VIN.

The engine is made by Porsche in Zuffenhausen, then mated to a transmission made by Getrag in Germany. Then the engine/transmission assembly is sent to Finnland to be installed into the chassis that are assembled there.

Thanks Guys, I was curious. I don't have my chassis number as yet, next week hopefully as the car came out of the Paint Shop at Valmet on the 20th! Now the wait to be told to get on the plane to Stuttgart!

I was told that the gearboxes come from Japan. Can anyone confirm this?

No the gearboxes are from Gertrag in Germany, in the past Boxsters had trannys from Aisin (sp?) but the Cayman units are not those.

Germany, the entire engine is assembled in Stuttgart, tested, then crated and sent to Finland for installation.

I've heard the 5 speed trannys are not Getrag and are made in Japan.
