What is the safety data on the Cayman?

I can't find ratings for any Porche for that matter on iihs.org - Porsche is not that niche so what am I missing? Is there anywhere to go for reliable safety ratings on impact crashes?

Since the Cayman shares the same body platform as the Boxster, all of the certification testing is performed on the Boxster. Look at the NHTSA web site for some heart wrenching photos and videos of crash testing on the Boxster.

Forbes did some digging through the Consumer Reports, Department of Transportation, Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the Highway Loss Data Institute (HLDI), and created their list of the top 20 safest cars of 2007. If it helps you, the Boxster made it onto the list:

Hmm, hard to imagine convertables are safer than large luxury cars. I would like to think the Cayman S = Boxter but for the purpose of real world physics this is not true and not reliable. They require seperate tests.

If you read the actual testing specs in the IIHS website, for example here Frontal offset test information yuou will find that in a way, your correct. However, it has nothing to do with "luxury". Front impact tests are only relevant in the same class (think weight) of cars. So if your cayman smacks a H2 head-on, most likely you lose. This bit of info sometime is overlooked by owners of small cars talking about their wonderful front impact test scores but sometimes they tend to ignore the testing discussion on the website. However, that is not true on side-impact tests. Side impact test are all equal.

I still don't understand how the Cayman can be considered the same as the Boxster. Makes no sense to me. Why compare a ragtop to a car that is double the rigidity and has a fixed roof?? I may be going out on a limb here but I put my money on the Cayman being safer.

Porsche didn't crash test any Caymans. That is one reason that you will not find any data.
