Wasn't the Cayenne GTS introduced in Ruby Red?

I really wanted to order my Boxster in a rich metallic red, but didn't feel comfortable choosing Ruby Red without seeing it in the flesh. Reds can look awesome or downright awful depending on the where on the color spectrum they sit. Mixing too much brown or orange can ruin the color.

I was looking for a metallic red that's like on the Cayenne GTS shown on the Porsche home page today: Home - Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG (love it), but that same car looks really different on the Jalopnik site Porsche Cayenne GTS - Jalopnik (hate it).

So I was doing some research tonight to see if any of the dealerships have a ruby red car in yet. The curiousity is killing me. No luck, but I think I may have found the ultimate Ruby Red thread:

The Utlimate Ruby Red (Rubinrot) Picture Thread - Pelican Parts Technical BBS

What's interesting is that it seems Porsche has offered ruby red on and off since the 1960s, but the color chip seems to have changed considerably during that time.

In the early 80s, it was more of a wine red color like the 911 photo posted above (not bad, but too dark, IMO). In the 60s, the color was more like the one on the Cayenne GTS (too much brown in it for my taste).

I'm starting to feel glad I didn't roll the dice and pick Ruby Red for my build. Of course, I'll be ticked off if the new 2008 Ruby Red looks like this (exactly the color I wanted): http://www.carsplusclassics.com/cand...c5_filback.jpg. I think this is House of Kolors Kandy Red Metallic. Beautiful, though I realize it's not to everyone's taste. Here's another example: Capital Area Cobra Club Gallery :: Misc :: candy_red_and_white_w_black_2

Sigh...wish Porsche's "color to sample" option wasn't so ridiculously priced...The Boxster would look amazing in a richer red metallic.

We were expecting the arrival of our Ruby Red CS next month, but our Dealer tells us it won’t be built till October, waiting for paint.

I saw Ruby Red last night at my local dealership. They have the 2008 paint chips in (I suspect all dealerships do by now). It's a nice shade of red (like a redder/browner version of Cassis Red), though I noticed the color changes quite a bit when you move the chip from the artificial inside lighting to natural outside lighting.

It was almost dusk by the time I got to the dealership - the color looks a little muddy in fading light, but it's a nice shade overall in most other lighting conditions.

It's too late to change the color of my build - which isn't a big deal since I love Arctic Silver too. For those of you still on the fence, pay a quick visit to your local dealership to see the color chip. Make sure you take the sample outside in the middle of the day if you can in order to get a proper feel for the color.

I know that this is a little off the beaten track, but when I was at the Parade this year (my first since I'm a newby with Porsche) there were cars with I believe, Zanzibar red. Perhaps not for everyone, but it knocked my socks off. It was available for some years, but like many other colors fell into obscurity. Does anyone have a car (Boxster or 911/Carrera) with this color and can you post a photo? I have Arctic Silver and I'm happy, but if Zanzibar red were available I might have gone in that direction. Bill

This darker metallic reds are tricky colors. My soon to be gone 430 is painted Rubino Micalizatto--which is similar to a ruby red. It looked great in paint chips, etc. but on the car in certain lights it has a brown tinge to it. When the brown tinge isn't apparent it is a great color.

If I was thinking of ordering one of these reds I'd try to see the paint chip in midday light, garage lighting, clouds, dawn/dusk, and under both regular and mercury vapor streetlights (not easy, I know, but these colors change A LOT).
