I am considering whether to order a SY Cayman S for street driving only (non-track). I live in Wisconsin but will not be using the car for winter driving. It would not be heavily optioned but would for sure have PASM and Sportschrono. The standard C7S 18' wheels are what I would want if I order. I have read that factory installed 5mm wheel spacers will widen the car's track and thereby fill in the look of the wheel well space. I have already seen the wheels in person and am positive I want the 18'ers. Any other advantages to having the spacers installed by Porsche? Other than the option cost of $490.00, are there any disadvantages[/quote] to getting the factory wheel spacers for a Cayman S?
PASM - Porsche Active Suspension Management
This active damping system offers continuous adjustment of individual damping forces based on current road conditions and driving style.
The driver can choose from two setup modes, ‘Normal’ and ‘Sport’, using a separate ‘damper’ button on the center console. ‘Normal’ mode is designed for general road driving and circuits with uneven tarmac. ‘Sport’ mode is intended for smoother track surfaces, where the harder settings help eliminate pitch and roll.
In either mode, PASM continuously evaluates the current conditions while automatically selecting the corresponding damper rates from the respective set of mapped values.
A range of sensors are used to monitor the movement of the body under acceleration, braking and cornering maneuvers, as well as on poor road surfaces. The PASM control unit then evaluates this data and modifies the damping force on each individual wheel in accordance with the selected mode. The result is a significant reduction in body movement as well as a better grip on the road.
For example: if ‘Sport’ mode is selected, the suspension is automatically set to a harder damper rating. If the quality of the track surface falls below a certain threshold, the system immediately changes to a softer rating within the ‘Sport’ setup range. When the quality of the tarmac improves once more, PASM automatically returns to the original, harder rating.

I'm interested in the same question. I'mgetting 19's but the price is 1/2 aftermarket.Also, As long as you are comfortable w/quality I assume anyone w/some mechanical inclination can install?

I'm getting the spacers option with the 19' sport design wheels. They don't fill up the space between the tire and the fender lip as much as bring the edge of the tire out flush with the vertical edge of the fender.Combined with the 10mm reduced ride height of the PASM (which I also ordered), I suppose it might give the illusion of filling up the space more. When you get the spacers, you also have to get longer wheel bolts (Porsches use bolts, not lug nuts) and that's where the expense is... even if you buy aftermarket spacers, you have to buy the longer bolts, too... if you use the stock bolts, you'll be setting youself up in a dangerous situation. The wider track also means a little better handling.
