Whenever I read comparisons of the two versions, mainly in articles, the differences noted between the two visible configurations seem to always be:
engine size
transmission
exhaust tip
brake color
nose trim color
No where have I read, and I've been reading a lot, have I seen it mentioned that the speedometers have a different high end number, which I believe they do.
Nothing of any consequence here, but just wanted to know if I'm correct in what I've observed.
Yes they do, and in stock form, the face on the cayman speedo is black, the S is white. Also, the strip of trim on the dash of the S is "alumilook" whereas its the gunmetal color in the base.
I believe there are also interior trim differences. If I recall correctly from my limited time in a Cayman, it had vinyl trim rather than the leather in my CS.

Yes, I just noticed (while at the dealer the other day) that the S models have leather or at least stitched door pulls and storage covers -- my base has plain black vinyl door pulls and storage covers. I thought they all came that way and you only got the leather with options. Oh well, next time ...

Same here. I NEVER look at the speedo! Between the tach and the digital read out, I get all I need to know. So, as far as I'm concerned the speedo is an unnecessary redundacy.

If you saw stitched anything, then the car either had full leather or some of the other leather options. Stitching does not come on the standard interior of either car.

Here is a Cayman, notice the black lower lips on the front spoiler:
Now here is my Cayman S. Can you see the body color lips?

Both get leather seating surfaces with vinyl bolsters and seat backs.

Yes, most definitely. Not only are the rotors bigger, but the calipers and brack pads are bigger too. This results in more fade free brake performance.
Check out this link for all of the differences between a Cayman and Cayman S.
