Hey - I was just wondering how do you guys close your rear trunk? The dealer told me to lower it down and then to press it firmly with the heel of my hand. However, I read the manual and I see that there is a handle inside the trunk for lowering it. In practice, I have also found that if I pull the trunk down quickly it will fully close without having to press it with your hand. Is this possibly damaging the trunk mechanism? What do you guys think? It just saves nasty hand prints on my bodywork...
One trick my salesman showed me is that if you leave one of the doors open and use the handle to pull the trunk down, it will usually close by itself. I use this technique when I remember it. A lot of times I end up using the handle to get it partially closed and end up pressing on the hatch to get it fully closed. I don't think slamming it hard enough to close will be good for it in the long run.
I hate to see my paw prints on the paint so I do what heckler does . . . without opening the door. I'm going to open a door from now on. That makes more sense.
I was advised not to let the hood or trunk slam when i bought my '00 Boxster S, so I don't slam the CS lids either. I also hate touching the paint, so I press gradually but firmly on the Cayman badging. I confess I was advised to press on the 2 sides, not on the badge (nor on the Porsche badge on the hood) or eventually I would dent it, but I do it anyway.
Front trunk (boot) lid: slam it until it latches - do NOT press the Porsche badge!!! Press lower down at the edge to shut the lid - do not use too much force but just enough to close the lid completely.
Rear trunk (boot) lid: open a door slightly and pull the hatch down sharply and it will shut completely.
I was told by the dealer to bring them down and do not slam. Then to press with the palm just below the badge. Dealer said the metal is very weak and slamming could result in a bend.

Since I hate carrying my wallet in my back pocket while driving, I always have it in my hand exiting or entering the car. I actually use it as a "leather car protector" and never touch the paint when closing the doors/hatches.
My friend noticed this years ago and ribs me for it.
I've been told to press on the badge, don't press on the badge, cross your eyes while murmuring a mantra of sorts, etc. I was told that pressing on the badge was bad because it was not proper to push on a Porsche badge - no mechanical reason, more out of respect! I've gotta try the door open solution though......out to the garage I go.
Front lid - I always told never "slam" it shut but lock it by pressing right below the badge b/c that's where the locking mechanism is. If you don't want finger/palm prints on the paint, the badge is the next best thing. Besides, I thought the reasoning for not "slamming" was because these hoods are made of aluminum and can easily bend? Could be wrong but I think that's what they told me.
Rear lid - When I first got my '06, the windows would not drop down when opening the trunk. I believe this was either disabled or a feature of the '07s and '08s but the dealership fixed that when I brought it in for some warranty work. This is something worth talking to the dealership about as it makes it easier to let the rear trunk drop and lock.

Hey, this is how I open the gas tank hatch! I try never to touch paint with skin (I have very oily skin, curse of my distant Italian heritage), which always attracts grit to the grease prints...
