BMC air filter installation issues

Threads have been amazing at walking you through air filter installation. Tried it today and could not install the BMC filter for the life of me. The open end of the filter would not attach to the car opening. Tried for two hours with no dice. To put in perspective, I removed and installed the original filter in about 2 minutes.

Has anyone had similar experiences? I sent it back to fabspeed for inspection.
