Just hit 1000 miles - good news/bad news

My meteor gray CS hit 1000 miles tonight after about 2 months. I thought I would post some good news/bad news comments:

Good news - the engine sounds like a symphony
Bad news - the Bose sounds slightly better than the 8 track I had in my 63 buick

Good news - I know how to disassemble the visor and paint the mirror cover
Bad new - I didn't read the entire article and used goof off to remove the airbag sticker - it also removed the plastic.

Good news - The car is still as tight as new and rattle free
Bad news - I had the trunk clunk and boom

Good news - I turned the trunk posts down a 1/4 inch and whoa clunk and boom almost entirely gone!
Bad news - Now that I can hear the Bose it sounds WORSE than the 8 track in my old buick

Good news - I discovered that cleaning and detailing a car can be fun and relaxing
Bad news - Darn, the brake dust on the front wheels is never ending....

Good news - This is one fine handling machine
Bad news - I can't drive worth a &*%$

Good news - I keep discovering more cool things that the engineers thought up.
Bad news - I don't have any Porsche stock - is was up a little today

Good news - I still smile everytime I get in the car
Bad news - the technical marvel of a self dimming mirror makes my teeth look green.

Good news - The Cayman Club rocks - Ken thank you.
Bad news - come on there is no bad news!

More bad news...you have another 1,000 of break-in before going over 4K RPM.
But don't feel too bad, I'm at only 600 miles.
Have yet to experience the "trunk clunk and boom". I assume it is readily apparent when it happens.

GRW - the clunk was evident on certain bumps. Not often but no doubt about it when it happened although it actually did not really bother me. The boom or pressure resonance was subtle and I just chalked it up to road noise but did notice it went away when the windows were down. After the adjustment there is a clear difference and improvement. It was kind of like drinking cheap wine. You thought it tasted fine then you drank good wine and figure out how much better it can be. It takes five seconds to try - the posts turn easily by hand - give it a try.

You're so funny shellshocked! Is it some kinda neural disconnect after experiencing shell shock?

I hate this car. When I had other cars I always had lust after other affordable cars. Since I got this Cayman thing the only thing I lusted after was the F430 Scuderia which is pretty much beyond my reach at least without risking a divorce.

Visor repair and removal

Wow, I don't feel so bad. I had a couple of private messages on the visor repair also. Here is how to remove and fix it. Don't have any pictures.

I took my visor off - it just pulls off of the metal arm. It is tough but it does come off - pull it straight back from the arm. I don't know if it really helped but I pointed the visor straight back to the rear of the car and had it in the down position. A firm tug straight back and a little twisting and it popped right off. Goes back on the same way. The electrical connections for the light are actually in the piece that the visor snaps into and not in the arm so there are no wires to worry about. I then took and carefully masked off the visor and mirror and sprayed flat black paint on the cover. It actually turned out quite nice. I did both visors by the way. FYI My first paint try was a wrinkle finish black krylon paint but standard flat black looked best. As an alternate if you look on ebay there is a guy who sells black decals that are meant to go over the label. They and cheap and I bet these would also do the trick and you would not have to take off the visor. FYI I posted a warning on the decal removal article last night.

One of the things that I enjoy most is detailing my car! It is fun and relaxing.

Take the wheels off, clean them and wax them inside and out with WheelWax. Get yourself a California Mini Duster and "dust" the wheels. It takes five minutes or less to dust them. The duster works better the dirtier it gets!

I share your opinions about the Bose. However, the engine sounds good enough to make up for it. I have selected 4 or 5 CDs that I really like. The system does not sound THAT bad if you crank up the volume. It totally sucks compared with a Lexus or a BMW logic system. I think that one of the primary problems with the system is inefficency. The damn thing sounds pretty horrible at normal volumes. I plan to look into modding mine at a later date. Maybe bigger amps or a speaker swap. I think that Porsche is focused on performance and driving dynamics rather than electronic gadgets.
