I have a January 6 order acknowledgement from Porsche for my Arctic Cayman, but to date have not heard a peep with respect to likely manufacturing and delivery dates.
With the mega month in sales posted by the Cayman in January, despite the Autoextremist position, I am getting a little anxious that my delivery date has a better chance of slipping out rather than being pulled in.
Anybody else out there with early january order dates with a better read on delivery?
Your dealer absolutely can tell you your build month, if they can't walk away from that dealer. They aren't being honest with you. They have to submit your car under a specific build month. Once that order is accepted Porsche will assign a build date shortly thereafter. You can expect your car roughly 1 month after the build date if you are in the US.
A January 'Order' date means nothing, I could order a Cayman tomorrow but what is important is the build month you are slotted into and then ultimately the build date within that month.
We have a Jan (early) build car that's currently at port, being shipped to us next week. Therefore, all Jan cars should be arriving in the next few weeks....depending on actual build date.

My order date is jan 10 or close. I have been given a build month of April. Delivery to be 4 to six weeks after...which is late May or early June, depending on if it is built in early or late April. Porsche is to confirm my order soon. I have not heard if that has happened yet.
I would assume, it would also have something to do with the options you selected, as to the time required to build. If your options were not to far off Porsche's normal pattern of manufacture, one would think that they could modify a slotted production, and get it to you earlier. Mine on the other hand is not, so I would think, mine would take longer. Now I could be totally full of hot air just as easily.
My order was placed on Jan 9. I was given a March build slot and told I could expect the car in early May. The dealer actually sat down at the computer with me and showed me the build allotments he had available, and I chose the March slot.
Assuming they all work the same way, K-Man S is right... the dealer absolutely knows your build slot. It's an allocation, not a first-come-first-served scenario.
You also will have some time to make some changes if you decide too.
And that's a great option to have. After seeing pics on this site, I've added another few (ahem... thousand) dollars to my order for things that I believe will enhance the enjoyment. On the other hand, if I hadn't picked a delayed build date, I could be driving mine next month instead of May...
I think the options will be appreciated - but then I fell into the same trap of ordering more the longer I waited. So I went from a pretty much base car to one that has many options. But I'm happy with my option choices, I just can't wait to get it and put them to use.
I'm happy to say that the changes didn't delay my build. All 'cosmetic' (more leather, new steering wheel). I picked a slightly later build to allow for the fact that I bought on impulse... I knew I'd want to change something, but wanted to make sure I had the car for summer!
My order date was 28 December. They 'got me' a Feb build, actually compeleted Feb 9 and waiting to sail the Atlantic now. I'd say my timing is pretty aggressive, but it's all luck. Hoping for delivery in early March.
Good luck, FYI, the waiting gets NO easier

I couldn't wait on no info on when the next vessel was scheduled so I e-mailed Valmet Aotomotive yesterday. Mine was built Feb 1. The following was the reply. K-Man S maybe you could get your photos of delivered members vehicles as well as info on caymenclub to them (hilkka.pihanpera@valmet-automotive.com).
Hello Tom,
Thank you for your e-mail and the nice words! Yes, we make a great car and we do a great job!
We are very glad to read the news on how the demand for this car is developping e.g. in the US and are glad to see how enthusiastic people are.
As to the shipments of the cars, it is a matter of Porsche AG in Germany.
We do not have any information on any car shipments out of Germany. So I think you'd better get in touch with the dealer.
I wish you most enjoyable car driving for many many years! A photo of the car and the owner would be nice! (as soon as you've got the car!)
