Members Fee?........

Ok...this might be blasphemy...not sure what the concensus is on this but here goes.......

Anyone consider a membership fee to join the 'Cayman Club'? The only reason I bring this up is that i have been to and belong toseveral forums on many different subjects that capture my interest, professionally and recreationally. One of them is fairly strict in their membership and they also charge a yearly fee to subscribe to the forums. It isnt much, i think around $28 a year.

There iswealthof information on the board and very little 'riff raff' if you know what i mean. lurkers dont seem to exist...not that thats an issue really. The Admin's keep things under control very well. In contrast there is another professional forum I belong to that is usually out of control...

People who have no buisness being there, sign on and make rude comments or argue for the sack of arguing and over the last year many of the valuable members have left...or at least have stopped posting.

I really like 'cayman club'. Its clean and easy to navigate. good information and what blows my mind is that the cayman has only been available for a very short time. I can see this forum becoming something very useful to anyone who owns or is considering the purchase of a porsche cayman.

I would be quite happy to contribute to a yearly membership fee to belong to this site, if it discourage the idiots that lurk around the internet just trying to cause trouble, from joining.

What do the rest of you think?

I appreciate the sentiment, but I think I can keep the trouble makers under control, if there are any. This software is very flexible in what it can do, for example I can ban users by IP address, and a variety of other means if it becomes necessary, but thankfully that hasn't been needed.

I think we have an adult enough community here that the regulars will help me keep this place from getting out of control. I'm also straight up and will tell people when they've done something wrong or explain what they did to them, as opposed to just banning them and ticking them off I believe in giving everyone a fair shake.

We cannot create a 'club' that would compete with PCA since we are the PCA's Cayman Register (did you know you can go to www.caymanregister.org ? Check it out! Anyway, that doesn't stop people from making donations if they want to in order to help the site grow, pay fees, etc. I know the PCA has areas of their site that you can't get to without being a PCA member which costs money, but their member areas are pretty dead and bereft of discussion.

Let's keep moving along the way we are and see how we do, but if you have $$$ burning a whole in your pocket I've got to put up a fence, re-carpet the house and paint the garage floor and I think I only have the budget for 2 out of the 3, feel free to come on over and pitch in. I have to strongly disagree, there are great forums out there and everyone I know is free. If you charge $ you will limit the membership to only a few. Trust me if 'riff raff' post then so what, jsut ignore them and they will go away.

I think you grow a site by welcoming all newcomers and making it as free as possible.

We all know there are costs involved and if that means a few add banners or a donation every now and then it's worth it. But the free nature of the internet and a continuing warm welcome to newcomers is what will make this community truly grow, rather than enforcing some kind of membership fee.

The continued growth of this site and the genuine passion for Porsche and the Cayman will bring in site sponsors. We - this community of users - will all be the richer for the friendships and depth of knowledge we gain.
