I am just curious, those of you that have the SP option, when do you use it? And for what reason? Also does it hurt your gas mileage? Finally, my thoughts are if I had it, which I don't I would want it on ALL THE TIME! I would love a better response to my throttle. Obviously it would not serve much of a purpose on the open highway when cruising at high speeds, but for all around driving, why would you not have it on all the time?
I can guarantee you my next Porsche will have it! This first couple of inches of throttle feel mushy and somewhat ineffective to me.
I keep sport on almost all the time. It really makes this car feel like a race car. I bought the car from the dealer because someone backed out of the deal, it had everything I wanted and the sport crono. I did not think much of it until I turned it on. I am not sure that I would have ordered it first time around but I am sure glad my car has it.
dont fret....it wont be long until there will be some aftermarket options available to give you better throttle response. My guess is that within a year or so there will be alot of threads blossoming in the mods section. keep your eyes out for stuff from techart, speedart, apr, powerchip, etc...

I also ordered it. Will it stay on after you turn the ignition off or does it reset itself to off the next time you turn the ignition on?
We did not get the Sport Chrono, as we are not track oriented, but now have found out that some of the features you may want, from an electronic standpoint, can only be provided if you have a sport chrono. Be sure to ask your salesman about the differences with and without the feature, and how these features relate to PCM levels. Has anyone read/studied the entire PCM handbook? That is quite a manual.
Sport Chrono and Chrono Plus
This optional package is a valuable addition for trackday use. Available in conjunction with the CDR-24 CD radio, it includes a swivel-mounted analog and digital timer unit which is centrally located on the dashboard. All functions are easily accessible via the control stalk for the on-board computer. Analog dials measure hours, minutes and seconds, while a separate digital field displays whole seconds, tenths and one hundredths of a second. A second digital display runs in parallel in the instrument cluster. Click this Link to visit the FAQ entry for Sport Chrono.
PCM & Sport Chrono are two different things. I believe the 'features' you are referring to are PCM.

I have to turn it on each time I start the car. I usually let the car warm up for a few miles and then turn it on. It really changes the way the car responds. I love it.
The way I understand it is that you can get the sports chrono with or without the PCM option. It costs just under a grand. If you have the PCM option, you can control the sports chrono within it.
If it would have been available on the cayman i bought off the lot, i would havebeenhappy to shell outthe grand for it, but alas it was not. The only cayman the dealership had with sports chrono also had the PCM which I am not a fan of. Just to busy for me, wouldnt mind it in a cayanne, but i didnt buy the cayman to get directions to the nearest wendys. (i know...its not just nav...and thats an extra too.)
besides, as i stated earlier, there will be other options very soon to increase the performance of this little beast. mark my words.

Yes I am sure you right about mods coming in the near future. When I ordered my car I had no idea what the sports chrono was other than a timeclock. If I had known that it would enhance performance I would have ordered it in a heartbeat.
A question for those who have SP, where do you feel the difference, is it at low RPM's like when you blip the throttle? Can someone try to explain exactly what you feel that is different from when it is not on?
Thanks Russ
