Do we need a FAQ section?

I keep seeing newbies keep asking the same questions (i.e. cabin heat, wheels etc.) and the search we have is not familiar/not preferred by the newcomers. Do we need a FAQ forum/section?

We had this discussion before and I think we are in the same position. I am too busy to sit down and put together a FAQ section from all the great data we have here. If someone else wants to do it I will glady get the FAQ up onto the site, but it is going to take someone else, or someone(s) plural to put this together first.

yeah...i think so too. AudiWorld has one and it helped me considerably when i first started using the forum there. I cant tell you how many people would hop on and ask the same question over and over.

SOAPBOX TIME (nothing personal crazy fast)

I really hate the term noob.
Its demeaning..no matter what context you use it in it always makes the user sound like a smart *** and the 'noob' sound like a dork.

have you ever walked into a party or meeting after a group is already there talking and tried to joing their conversation. its not always easy, and having someone turn to you and say something like....noob...well, that would piss me off. <br style="font-weight: bold;" />

There will be many very intelligent people joining this board in the future. some will have a wealth of information to share and contribute. they may ask a question the rest of us know the answer to because we have been here longer. I was never offended when i asked a question on a board and someone took the time to write a quick..see the faq or check the search. so much nicer.

thats what i think anyway....

ok...off soapbox

How about a wiki instead of a FAQ? That way, anyone can add to it and make changes as necessary. Tie that into the forum accounts and you won't have to worry about anyone defacing it or spamming it too much.

hmmmmmmmm,

I don't think anyone takes offense at 'noob' as short for newbie. It's used all over the place, and hey, everyone's a newbie sometime...

my $.02...

RR,

Sorry - of you're going to get up on a soapbox (as you put it), you should expect people to comment on what you say.

You'd be surprised at what will offend some people, Beez. Some folks might even be offended by a controversial screenname for a forum...

If you can find me an ASP driven wiki page generator I might be able to incorporate it with this site. In a sense what it could be is a single forum message that any registered user has the permission to edit. Hmmm I'll think on that one for a bit.
