I thought I might just do this event and see what kind of time I can get. Has anyone else ran their car at a strip?

You have to do it. Hell, for $8 bucks I'll even sponsor you. Sounds like it will be the last opportunity you may have on the island. Go Russ!
Russ, youhave been veryreluctant to abuse your car so far and very careful with it. I'msurprised you're considering it! I want you to do it, but it's not exactly taking it easy on the car. Recall the R&T article that mentioned 'significant wheel tramp' on take off.... To get the lower possible time in any manual transmission you've got to kinda hammer it...
Yes I think I do have to do it. I will have to practice my power shift. Believe it or not I use to be able to rip through those gears in 57 Nomad four on the floor. I would start off throttle to the floor and never let up, just bang that clutch and hope my hand is as fast as my foot. Sure wish I could squeeze more out of 3rd gear, I suspect I will have to shift into fourth before the end of the 1/4 mile.
According to R&T I can get to 103 in third, but 1/4 mile speed is 106.
Yes you are correct, but I think I might be willing to make this one exception. May be the only chance I get. Yes I just read that, 'standing start acceleration for the Cayman S is best accomplished by a drop-clutch launch while holding the engine at 4500 rpm's, which is followed by significent wheel spin and wheel tramp'
Wednesday afternoon we will assemble as many Porsches as we can for the Parade of Porsches
, and trace a moderate length drive that will end up at PIR for Cruise Night
. Once there, we will file into the prime section, reserved just for us, at the PIR Wednesday Night Cruise-In. It will certainly be fun rubbing elbows with all the hot rodders, but there’s even more. We have our own reserved lane and bracket at the PIR Wednesday Night Drags. That’s right, we’re gonna drag race them Porsches!

I'd just do a soft launch (about 2500 rpm), get the tires hooked up quickly and give up the 0.2 seconds you'll lose and spare the drive train...
I was pretty impressed with HWY 11 on the big island when I was there last week. Its a perfect 'croc paradise' going around south point. Who needs a 1/4 mile when you have 90 miles of twisties?
Russ; I whole heartedly agree with Devo above. I would take it a little easier on the launch and lose the time. Would hate to see ANYTHING break due to hard launch.....but definitely believe you need to take the last chance at the track!!!!!!
