I'm only in the group for a week. I want to order my CS in Sedona Red, which is a really beautiful color. It's the color of the Arizona Diamondbacks by the way. It's deeper than guards red somewhat, but it's the shade that I love. I took one of the really nice guards red caymans from the gallery and tried to replace the original with Sedona, using Photoshop. It just doesn't seem to work for me. If someone would be so kind, could somone do the task for me? I can get you the color numbers from my PS replace screen if you like, or you can get a jersey image from AZdiamondbacks.com. I'd really like to get a look and compare with guards. The difference I see may just be in my head. Thanks very much.

That's going to be a tough one. The colors are not very different, so it will be impossible to capture the subtle differences that you are interested in without doing a lot of work. For example, measuring the RGB values in Photoshop does not account for the lighting that the two images (jersey and car) were captured under. Sedona under one type of light might measure the same as Guards under another light, or completely different.

Just order it! It will be lovely (it's a Cayman, after all).

Yea, I know that going in. I'm a basic user of Photoshop on my Macs, but they're not my main program, so I've never pushed to use them. I just wanted to get an idea, rather a comparison. Guards is much brighter, the shade and intensity are less than Sedona. Kinda like the difference between Dakota Red and Fiesta red, colors from 50s and 60s cars that Fender used back in that time period and still uses a lot today.

I build guitars, but my best work is as a guitar finisher and painter. I have a pretty good eye for color and their differences. Fiesta red would be a damned good CS color, now that I think of it. There are a couple of 50s Fords, a Fairlane and a T-bird here in Tucson, and that color is soooo Vibrant. Hmm..I think I may have just inspired myself.

Post the color values for both shades of red.

The trick is just to color shift an existing guards red photo by the difference between the color values. Not to replace or recolor it.

Hey, thanks for the offer, but strangely enough, the process worked today as I was getting the number. I found a pic in the gallery called "BobsCayman" and did it. It's a guards CS in side view, with a dam and a lake and a nice white capped mountain in the background. It's definitely nice in Sedona Red.

I did it replacing the area and using smudge, and it's pretty cool, but not very well done really. When I sample the guards I get DF282C and the Sedona at 9A1214. Both numbers seem to vary depending on where I use the dropper, even just a hair away from the spot, so I don't know.

You need to sample two areas that are lit the same way. Its hard to tell sometimes, its sort of an art. Color adjusting the car will work better than replacing and smudging but oh well Glad you got some idea, I am sure almost any color looks good on a cayman except mint green.

The best way is to adjust the saturation and brightness for red only I think:

Looks cool. A little faded out, but it looks better than my attempt. Thanks a lot.

I adjusted contrast, saturation and a bit on the lightness and now it's perfect. Thanks very much.

Now, all you have to do is find the $4,315 and the patience for the probable 9-month wait for a paint to sample car.

That long eh? They probably wait till the last run of the year. This puts custom in a wholly different light.
