Ken, These mock-ups conform quite closely to all of the spy shots that we have been seeing for the last year or so. The only area of real divergence appears to be the shape of the clear portions of the rear lights. On the earlier spy shots, the clear areas were canted downward toward the center of the car. On the digital mock-ups, they are more or less horizontal, toward the bottoms of the lights. While this look is more in keeping with the 997 facelifted rear lights, I question whether or not it is accurate. Then again, maybe Porsche had a change of heart, since the earlier spy shots revealed a kind of cat's-eye look that, to my mind, was not very appealing, and somewhat out of character for Porsche. I guess that all we can do is keep waiting. 987f
This must be one of the tail light pics that you mentioned about the clear areas sloping to the center of the car. I threw in the front shot too.
I copied them in February and it is not much of a stretch to get to the photoshops posted by Ken. The artist didn’t have too much imagination since he even copied the camo at the spears.

Good point! Maybe that's why the driving lights have that "taped-in" look that I mentioned earlier. 987f

...they needed some way to justify the ~$5K price premium they're asking for the Cayman.
that seems about right to me.
and i know i'm late to this party but, just for the record, i think both cayman versions look great and i'd be pleased to own either one - but i gotta say, in all honesty, the only element i actually prefer on the new car is the fog-light treatment.

Very subtle, but nice. Doesn't outdate Gen 1. My suprise is they didn't use the new leds type light on the front...

Since Porsche no longer attends the Detroit Auto Show, won't it be hard for them to announce anything there? Or are they going back to this show just to make this announcement? (which I would find hard to believe)

In view of Porsche's having sat out this year's NAIAS, the relatively short '09 model year, the desire not to repeat a prior glut of Caymans on the market, and a spring '09 debut for the MY '10 Cayman and Boxster, I would think that the Geneva show would be a more likely venue for the facelifted cars. However, PAG never consults me on these things! 987f

No way. According to this release, the car is released 'mid-year', several months after the new FL Cayman is released. No chance this will happen. I would guess this car hits the US market late 2008.
I expect that these images are the real renderings. I run a web development business and have a large automotive client. I was at a conference in London last year and saw a presentation by a German company called RTT. They have all the real cad files from most german automakers, and produce renderings (stills and movies) for Porsche. Most official images that you see come out from Porsche are actually not photographs, they are renderings. All of those images of Porsches on our manuals, brochures etc. are renderings. The images of Porsche website are renderings. The only time they use photography for marketing is in some cases in traffic with driver etc.
These are not photoshop mockups at all. They are real deal renderings by RTT or by Porsche, or someone else with access to real files.
They could have been comped up by a fan with 3d skills and access to old porsche models - but unlikely.

All their images are renderings?? Damn, RTT look like pros already!!

While returning from San Luis Obisbo two weekends ago, I was in traffic with a "funny looking" Cayman that had the V2 front fog light configuration. The usual dull black color that obscures details of course. Was not able to deploy phone camera fast enough to get pic.
