Aussie Caymans aren't cheap

I passed through the Melbourne, Australia airport last week on my way back home via Singapore and London (two days of flying to save a client 5k).

Near the internaional departures area they had a base C on display. List price was $112k. That puts it at around $100k US. Yeesh! My sympathies to the Aussies.

There were two locals looking at it when I walked up to take a look (a colour blue I haven't seen before). They were trying to figure out how much trunk space it had and thought that there were rear seats hidden someplace. I couldn't resist being an obnoxious foreigner and pointed out that it was a mid engine and that there were, in fact, two storage areas. I also said that I'd hate to see how much a Cayman S cost if that base model, with few options carried a 112k sticker.

Holy #$%^! That's pretty amazing, my sympathies to our Aussie brothers and sisters. You still have a hell of a car, though!

But I heard that Porsche will be cutting their profit margins to the dealers in the US for 2009, which might mean people won't be getting the discounts as they were in the past - anyone else hear that?

The govt taxes which we pay are crazy. As soon as they see u interested in buying any car especially a car over $57,000. They bend you over.

But you need to put this in perspective, a mate of mine is looking at a 1998 Boxster 2.5 marked up at $65000 for a 10 year old car. Now i bet you would love to get that sort of price in the US for a 10 year old Boxster
