Road Trip - Florida to NY and Down Blue Ridge Parkway

Completed a 2800 Mile road trip in my Cayman S this past week. I picked up my wife in NY and we drove west on I-78 to I-81. We stopped in Hershey, PA to visit Chocolate World and then went south down Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway until the landslide closure forced us off at New Switzerland. Overnight stops were made in Winchester, Charlottesville, Roanoke, and Spartanburg before returning home. We stopped in to see Monticello and a number of places along the Parkway itself.

The trip was a dream come true for my wife and myself. We enjoyed marvelous weather, great food, and many neat places to see. Here are a couple of pics.

The week following Labor Day finds the Parkway practically deserted. This means speeds can modestly exceed the 45mph limit periodically. The twisty Parkway roads are ideal for the Cayman and fun to drive. I set the trip computer before I left home and achieved an average speed near 60 mph for all driving and an average mpg of just under 23.

Some people may think that speeds along the Blue Ridge Parkway are too low to enjoy in a Cayman. I do not agree.

I'm jealous! Sounds like a great trip; and I completely agree... the parkway is a blast in the Cayman and so beautiful.

That sounds like a great trip! I've driven the whole length of the Parkway several times in past, though not yet in the CS.

I completely agree with you on your point above. I find it to be very enjoyable driving the Parkway at 45 or slightly above. After all, a major reason to drive that route is to see the views and at those speeds you can enjoy finding the correct line through a turn and see the sights too!

That's not to say I don't occcasionally pull off the main road to find some nice twisty bits to take at a *little* more speed , but I do try to respect the rules of the Parkway.

Ain't bad on a big BMW touring motorcycle either. Haven't tried it in my S, but dang, thanks! This is definitely a trip to pipe dream about......
