Alright soo most people buy Porsche's for their great performance and value, but the priceless option that comes with is theStatus factor from owning a Porshce.
If you dont know what I mean by status factor, hereis an examples for you...
ex. You pull up to valet, all mercedes,bmw's,lexus,corvettes etc are being parked underground like they should be,now you come along in a shinning Porsche Cayman but the carstays parked right in front of the hotel, only to boost the appeal of the hotel.But you feel like a celebrity receiving all this special attention, people immediately asume your a big shot or something!. =}
Status is something special that comes along with exotic and fancycars, but its hard to achieve with a car below the 80-90K but I believe the Cayman does it very well (not so muchthe Boxster) and even a Corvette around the same price range does not recieve this treatment.
This topic is just to get the Cayman forum talking more about their personal expeirences with their Cayman, so go on share some of the special treatment you've recieved by owning your Cayman.
This is the dumbest forum yet posted... Who cares?. What does status really do?. Get you a free meal?. Get you laid?. I hope your really joking when you say you really care that people pay attention to you. Get a LIfe.... Yeah a Cayman is real status symbol especially when you pull it up next to a car full of gang bangers who want to not only take your expensive car, but your life as well.. I really can't believe there are people out there who care that much about what they drive....and in L.A.. your a dime a dozen!!!!.
Tht kind of 'status' has its downside. That valet expects a ten dollar bill from the Porsche and a twenty from the Ferrari in Miami or Palm Beach. No thanks, I'll park it myself, keep the status. Edited by - DaveC on 04/03/2006 09:30:18 AM Edited by - DaveC on 04/03/2006 09:31:39 AM
Ya, Dave C is right. Getting the valet to leave the car up front isn't a matter of what you drive, is how much you tip. You can have a pinto parked out front if you tip the guy $200.
BTW - I used to valet park cars for a high-end club in Hollywood and YES - your Porsche was always the first car we took for a little run in the near-by hills - before returning it to sit out front of the club... Think twice!!!!!.

Please do not ignite a flame war by allowing something to get personal. If the original poster wants to ask people about 'status' that is their choice to do so, even if the majority would not care, then I would anticipate very few responses to this thread and it would die, or as DaveC has pointed out there are negatives that come along with 'status' as well.
Hey K-Man S - This is no flame war... if poster wants to ask people about 'satus' that is theri choice to do so as you state - but it shoud equally be other's right to question the so-called poll... & believe it or not - if you talk to any private security firm in Hollywood - they will tell you the car your dirve can often lead to status and attention you don't want... Again this is not personal at all - just responding to what I think is a really dumb topic to begin with...

Can't agree with you more. Get the Cayman for its all around performance...there are plenty of cars out there that will do more for 'status'...whatever that means...???
Then really no need to call this post the 'dumbest yet posted' or telling someone to 'get a life', those are the types of things I was concerned might ignite a flame-up, just taking a little pre-emptive action to make sure it doesn't, thanks for concuring that you don't want to participate in a flame war. Sigh. And BMW 3 owners also swear up and down that they bought their cars for all-round performance and not status, where all-round also means not in a straight line and even though most BMWs sold in the
US are automatics and not manuals.
We had few thing that were close to flame wars and it is not fun to read
One comment here made me think about the 'Ferris Buller day off' movie - the parking attendants took the Ferrari for a spin. As for LA - we all know that expensive cars are a dime a dozen there but sadly ( as much as we wish ) not all of us can live there ( or California for that matter ) - the few that do should consider themselves very lucky as it is a beautiful place
For me this board is not only the best site for Cayman information and chat, but also a refuge from other sites where personal attacks and provocations are the daily fare, with a commensurate loss ofreal content. I for one applaud and approve of K-Man S's efforts to keep this sitecivil and content oriented. Thespeed of the internet is not always in our best interest when it comes toour first impulse reactions.
I have to respect K-man S on this...for the first time since joining this forum last fall, I've been disappointed with the flaming and content of the site. Regardless of the topic discussed (on this post or otherwise), everyone has been extremely professional and mature about the responses published. If I wanted to read the flames and hear people rant, I'd go to another site. This site has differentiated itself by the great information provided, the comraderie (sp?), and the general passion that people have brought to the forum without egotistical ranting and slamming of other members. Why start now?
Mom always said if you don't have something nice to say...
If I cared about 'status' I wouldn't get a car with a Tiptronic. I am getting the Cayman S because I just fell in love with the looks and as a software engineer, I like fast machines!
