What's the scoop on the gas situation around Atlanta?
Hi everyone,
I'm looking forward to CroctoberFest next weekend!
I've seen news reports of gas shortages in and around the Atlanta area. What's the real story and how much is a gallon of premium right now?
Should I devote some front trunk storage space to gas containers instead of CrocFest goodies?

the truth about cars website [www.thetruthaboutcars.com] has something on this, fresh this morning - check editorials and comments section for "Gas Panic Spreads Across the South." nashville is bone dry. other towns across the south reporting severe shortages. also try cnn.
There are shortages, more with Premium than Reg, that I see. Fill up in S Carolina (on I-85 or 20, mile markers below ~30 ) or Alabama I-20 near Anniston (~185). Cheaper than Georgia, also. The Atlanta area requires the EPA "clean" gas, so it is easier to buy gas outside the EPA area. This is Georgia, so you can always burn moonshine.

I can tell you from speaking with a co-worker who was in Asheville this past weekend and a friend who lives there just today (ARCHuTeK, etc, feel free to chime in here!) there have been stations periodically out of gas in Asheville. It's not impossible to find, but it does take a bit of looking.

kind of sucks down here but yea....a lot of stations are out. I haven't had problems getting gas though but i might have just been lucky those times. Been paying around $4.40 a gallon though

Today at 5 the EPA passed an emergency waiver allowing gas with higher sulfur content than the gas previously allowed to be sold in Atlanta, which was an extremely low sulfur "botique gas." Hopefully that will add to supplies... but from all the other news I'm reading today the situation in Atlanta is still grim; the prices went up 16 cents overnight on the 21st according to the AAA website, and average for regular is $4.01 today. The local government has said they will crack down on any price gouging going on, so I don't think the price will get any higher... lets just hope the supply gets better by the end of the month.

I posted this on another thread for croctoberfest.....
Asheville is bone dry. A friend of mine went to over 12 stations today with no luck at all. True, there is gas (two stations near my office just got gas 30 mins ago) to be found, but the question is......are you within 1/2 mile of the pump when the pumps open? If not, you might as well not even get off the couch....the cars will be (are) lined up for over a mile each way for every station with gas. Figure about one station a day with a new reserve.
They said on the news it would be much better next week.....whatever that means.
That's it, I'm going to bring an emergency supply of prime A1 New Jersey refined Yankee gas with me. Nobody better rear end me!
This caravan is turning into a Mad Max movie.

Funny I just mentioned Mad Max to my co-workers today! Thats about the right call, especially since on the 11 pm news last night they had fight footage at the pumps!
