I just installed a "thicker" sport wheel on my car after driving with a standard for over a year and It makes a dramatic difference in road feel and comfort, looks better too! Wasn't interested in the wheel with buttons all over it, seems too busy to me for a pure sports car like a Porsche...
Smaller diameter means less steering input for the same reaction at the wheels. Or, it quickens the steering response because your hands have to travel less distance compared to a larger diameter wheel.
Personally I don't really like the looks of either. But maybe the triangle one a little better. But I ordered mine with the cheap sport wheel option for the increased response. Couldn't stomach the insane prices for the thicker wheel options....

I selected the sport wheel for two reasons: 1) Asthetic - I liked the circular center better than the triangular center/air bag cover and 2) Leg room - The slightly smaller diameter improved the available space for my knees. Seems I'm not alone in my reasoning for #2; you'll find a number of similar comments from longer legged drivers in the archieve.
I have the standard steering wheel on my CS and I REALLY don't like the feel of it at all. I have the GT3RS Alcantara wheel on order from our friends at Suncoast and I am waiting for the Carrera Red airbag to come in.
Today I just happened to drive GatorBite's CS that has the sport wheel and there is a tremendous difference in the feeling of the wheel itself and the input required for steering. The sport wheel is a bit heavier to turn (I think due to the smaller diameter) but there is a lot less of the "school-bus steering wheel feel" than with the standard wheel. Also, the thicker grip and the padding are a lot more comfortable on my hands. It's a very noticable difference.

I went all the way and got the $1050 (ugh!!) XPA wheel, to match my Dark Grey Natural interior, and IMO it is the best feeling steering wheel I've ever driven. The thickness is just right, the shape and size are just right, and the smooth leather is just plain sexy to the touch. I also like the look of the round center better. I was wondering after I ordered the XPA if I thought it would be worth the ridiculous cost, and all I can say is that I would order it all over again.
I have the regular Sport Steering wheel and had a chance to drive a Cayman with the "thicker" XPA sport wheel.
Much better soft feel with the XPA wheel in my hands, night and day. And the smooth leather feels great too!

Frankly, I was seduced by the low (relatively) price of this option when compared to the ridiculous prices charged for most other ones. But in fact, I do like the smaller diameter and the little bulges for your thumbs. It is very similar to the wheel on my Mini Cooper S which I had become accustomed to.

Hi Brett,
Do you know if the GT3RS wheel is the same as the CS sport wheel? I've
got a DE1 that has alcantara Sport steering wheel and I think its the same
as the GT3RS wheel except the yellow tape, but I'm not sure.
Thanks,
W.

I honestly don't know if they are the same but it would surprise me if they weren't.
