Seatbelt trapped me in the car!

You're not going to believe this...

I stopped to get gas tonight. When I got back in the car and pushed the seatbelt end into the buckle, it did not seem to seat itself in there correctly. It seemed to hang up in there, half-way in. I could not get it to go all the way in, and I could not pull it back out. The seatbelt warning sounded. I pushed again, and the alarm ceased, but... Something still was not right.

When I got home, I tried to exit the vehicle, but the seatbelt end would not disengage from the buckle. I opened the door to shed some light on the matter, which revealed the problem: Something was stuck in the buckle with the seatbelt end, preventing it from working properly.

It was a piece of fabric with an adhesive backing. Apparently it was originally affixed to the back of the buckle to protect the center console. Somehow, this little strip of fabric came loose from the back of the buckle, and when I went to fasten my seatbelt, it got pushed into the buckle opening, binding in there as the blade was pushed in.

There was only about 3/16" of it sticking out the top of the buckle slot. I was just able to grip it with my fingernails enough to pull it out. Problem solved.

What a fluke. I thought I was going to have to sleep in the car tonight!

Don't feel so bad I had a very good friend that got stuck inside her Lexus. The entire electical system just went dead and could not open the doors nor the windows. She had to call 911. They ended up just breaking the window so she can crawl out.

At an Auto-X a few weeks ago, I found the same little piece of fabric that you described stuck across the opening to the buckle. I couldn't figure out where it came from. Now I know.

Thanks

The little debris is a time-release designed by Porsche to eventually force a Cayman's owner to call for a 911.

An involuntary upgrade tactic. It ain't gonna work on me. No. Never.

Good thing you got free

Now I'm afraid the back of the buckle, now unbuffered by the liberated strip of fabric, will rub against the center console and mar it. I'll ask the dealer about it the next time I go in for service.

Glad you broke free! It's just your car's way of showing you that she loves you.

**** I checked this piece of fabric on the driver's side belt connector. It was still on there, but turned side ways. I think the heat must get to the adhesive.I re-positioned it & cleaned off the excess adhesive.
