Anyone try out this Bird Automotive bike rack?

I'm actually now considering making the Cayman S my one and only car. One of the things that was holding me back was the fact that I love to mountain bike. I didn't want to go the roof rack route, because I feel it spoils the looks of the car and just seems out of place.

Though this seems like a good alternative, since it's easily removed when not needed:

Porsche Cayman Bike Rack

Thoughts?

That looks like a clever setup, though I've never seen it before. Price is a little high, but still less than Porsche Transport System plus a bike rack.

My car came with the PTM, though I've not even put it on the car - Fortunately, where I live most of my bike rides can start from my driveway.

I traded my Boxster for a Cayman S so I could use the rack system for my bikes 2 1/2 years ago. I was going to take in out when not in use but my wife thinks it looks cool. Plus at car events I get more look then the GT3s. Get the rack you will love it.

Why not just put your bike in the car? I seem to remember a member who did that, though he had a road bike.

Yeah, my bike is a little too beefy, I think. Plus it gets dirty.

I've seen a Bird rack on a Boxster and was unimpressed. First off the owner didn't want to use the straps so he added in his own restraining system drilling through the license plate in one place (yikes! bet the DPS loves that) and it still seemed kind of flimsy. Secondly I just don't like dangling my expensive bikes off of what's basically a trunk mount rack period. Roofracks a la the factory system are much more secure. In general, taking a bike in/on your Cayman shows that it's still a car to you (a good thing in my mind) and not just a garage queen. I don't have a rack on mine, but have taken both road and mtb bikes inside including dragging my mtb to Vermont and back last year. People loved seeing that bike emerge from the Cayman's trunk. Anyway do what you want, but I vote too for trying the roofrack, Brian's car is a fixture around town here with it.
