Cayman vs Cayman S Suspension

When driving the Cayman S on a demo drive, the car felt more solid in the drive and handling than the Cayman. Is this because of the increased weight of the engine, or a setup difference between the two suspensions?

Were the wheel sizes the same on both cars? Did one have PASM and the other one didn't? Those two questions are a major part of any difference.

I agree. Driving a PASM car in Normal mode will feel less connected and more loose. The Standard suspension is pretty tight and it always feel that way. A PASM car is loose and comfortable until you start banging it through turns, then it tightens itself up and feels more connected. A press of the PASM button will also iniate the Sport setting and tighten her up.

Were the wheels different size? The standard S has 18" wheels and the base has 17" wheels. My 19" wheels are definately more solid feeling than standard 18" S wheels.

what i read:

between 2 non-PASM cars, the Cayman S has thicker antiroll bars than the Cayman 2.7.

When the Cayman 2.7 gets the sports pack option, adding PASM and 6 speed gearbox, the ARBs get upgraded to the same part numbers as the Cayman S ones.

While I'm sure that you are correct, that tightening seems to happen remarkably fast. I can't notice anything other than a subtle and quick change from less connected and more loose to tight and right with my car.

When starting out with the sport mode on, it is firm immediately. But, if it doesn't get "used", as when conditions road don't warrant the suspension being really firm, it softens up fairly quickly too. I will generally put sport mode on and PASM off for the throttle remap only, unless I see a poorer quality road coming up and want the assurance that the tires are going to stay planted.

It is amazing how quickly and seamlessly it tightens up. At a recent track event, I was running in PASM sport mode. Well, during one run I totally forgot to switch it to sport. I was almost done with my run before I noticed that I was in normal mode because once you start pushing the car, even if you're in normal mode the adaptive nature of the system tightens everything up.
