Exclamation Service engine in 30 days message

So I read all the other threads on this but could not find the answer to my question (maybe I missed it)... What happens if I do not service within the 30 days? Does the reminder go out on its own or what? I don't want to go to the dealer and I only have 5K miles and have owned it for less then 6 months.
Thanks

It will count the days down until it says "Service Now" or something like that. It will not go away until it is reset - either by the dealer, or you can do it yourself if you have the Durametric program/cable.

Remember that service is due on certain timed intervals (e.g. every 2 years for '06s) even if you haven't put many miles on; if it isn't due yet, and you don't have Durametric, it really shouldn't be a big deal for the dealer to reset it for you.

This happened to me, and nothing bad happens other than the message even when the time is up. I have heard that dealers will charge for resetting the message, and if you had service done elsewhere I can see that but given that your car isn't due for service, I think you should be able to get them to do that for free, since it's arguably a bug to be reminding you now. On the other hand, if you haven't had an oil change yet, it's probably a good time.

Self destruction.

Do not allow the service message to appear, the engine will automatically self destruct three days later.

Yep, I was just charged $155 by the dealer to reset my computer. It's a total rip-off if you ask me.
