Last night - October 1st - was the Spy the Spyder event at
Jim Ellis Porsche which was attended by several members who had come into
Atlanta early for Croctoberfest or who lived in the area.
First, I want to say that at Croctoberfest I am going to get pulled in several different directions and I saw it happen last night at
Jim Ellis, one moment I'm starting a conversation with JRW from Cincy, the next David Stone is pulling me away for a beer and regailing stories of past racing episodes. I want to talk to as many of you as possible at Croctoberfest so please don't be shy and please bear with me as I get tugged in different directions. I always feel like I don't get to spend enough time with any one person at events like this, but I am trying to do my best! Ok on with the show...
In2Esses met us over at the hotel and we followed him to
Jim Ellis where our cars were valet parked for the evening's events. All of the dealership personnel were there in force and each of them that I met were friendly and helpful. Our daughter had accidentally grabbed the iron in our room about an hour before and her hand was still hurting so she was crying off and on. Several of the staff expressed their concerns, brought us ice and helped to comfort her, we are very thankful for that!
The turn-out seemed pretty good and the food was top notch, having come from a Brazilian restaurant called Chimas (we are thinking of going there for a late lunch on Sunday or possibly dinner depending on time). The service bay was converted into a place to eat, there was live music at one end of the showroom and a bar at the other. Out front was parked the #7 RS Spyder which is making the rounds of various dealers and landed at
Jim Ellis for the race weekend. Here's Kenny wanting to go for a ride:
The 997.2 was also out in force with several people checking out the new 911 and its latest features. Our kids liked the back seat:
In case you were wondering about the new PDK, it is so easy a child can do it, as Alexandra demonstrates from these two pics shot at almost the exact same instant from different angles:
My wife decided she liked the extra space for the kids and the PDK transmission and that we should buy a 911 too. Seems that the Porsche 911 marketing campaign is working on the family. Alexandra approves!
The highlight of the evening was the arrival of ALMS drivers Timo Bernhard and Emmanuel Collard. They were introduced to the audience at the dealership and fielded some questions from the crowd, anyone recognize the man holding the microphone?
Of course our son is not shy and after the Q&A session both Timo (left) and Emmanuel (right) sat down to autograph some RS Spyder posters. Here Kenny is asking them if he can go for a ride in their RS Spyder.
I think the answer was once he got his license. Here he is with the autographed poster which he loved:
