Thanks for the links. The Girls section was pretty hot. Reminds me of Bangkok.

If you are not comfortable, you should back out independent of the exact circumstances. Don't let peer pressure/camaraderie push you past your comfort zone.

Also concerning is that you picked up a few other cars along the way since you don't really know the other driver's/car's capabilities. The law has interesting phrases like "reckless driving which proximately causes", etc. It's a little bit sobering, but take a look at the California Uniform Bail and Penalty Schedules (http://www.courtinfo.ca.gov/referenc...s/05JCBail.pdf). There, you'll see that 100 MPH is a "magic" number in California. This PDF is always a good way to damper your spirits about driving a sports car. Be safe. </preaching>

Glad only your pride was broken, and you are man-enough to post about it! I think that says a lot for you.

First, driving like that on a public road is just crazy and irresponsible. You and your friends should invest in DE and spend some time at the track.

Second, if you go to the track you will not see many M3s or M5s passing a CS.

I think BMWs are great cars - - I have owned three -- but they are not a Porsche!

Drive Safe!!

Driving like that on a public road is highly criminal. If you were to get caught, you will likely lose your license, your car, and spend 1 year in jail - check the law. It endangers everyone's life.

It's just plain stupid.

Beyond that, irresponsible operation of an automobile can cause all of the rest of us to get a very bad reputation. And if enough foolish games like that are played on public roadways, the laws will change to put governors on our vehicles to ensure that we can't drive that way - ever.

And the last thing we need, IMO, is more stinkin' rules that effect the pleasure many for the irresponsible, misbehavior of a few.

I agree. I don't condone this stuff esp when it endangers innocent bystanders. I did get caught up in trying to catch up but yeah even on straightaways i thought about it if there was a slow person switching lanes to theirs, you'd rear end them.

Come to think of it, on another drive during the freeway i did see a couple of rice racers weaving through traffic racing and I didnt' like it so yeah, the golden rule.

They will do a track day soon and I think they're going to rent out a drag strip to play. I think i will go but as a spectator. If its after xmas and i get my ecu and stage 2, maybe i'll try a quarter mile. but for now, i'll just watch the big boys.

And re law changes based on government? well, check out the second video of this link. I dont' know the details but they had a police escort and those cars dont' look like they're going 65.

11-99 Event Videos

Also i was at the gumball event when they came down to LA, and those guys had segments between cities where they were just blasting it. Fun to watch, so long as there's no repeat of 07.

I'm not even going to comment on the canyon run stories the day before then or all the other meets here in LA. I'll just let the videos speak for themselves.

I'm not going to be self-righteous to tell you what you should and should not do, but to maybe shine some light on your dilemma, I've had an E60 M5, a 997S and a 996Turbo in the past year before buying my Cayman S and I'll tell you this, on the Freeway, very few cars can touch an E60 M5. Even the 996Turbo would need an ECU just to keep up, no chance for the Carrera S.

that said, I picked the Cayman S over the above mentioned cars about 5-6 months ago and $ had nothing to do with it... so ... if it bothers you enough, maybe it's time to get a different car?

It doesn't really bother me too much that they're faster. I didn't buy the car for raw speed or i could've bought a stang for that or anything with a hemi. I love my car cuz it looks great, its well priced and i like that its zippy and it handles well. All i was saying was that I didn't expect to be this far behind these cars - again, i know m5's are fast on paper, i just didnt' realize that raw power on a sedan.

Perhaps maybe i didn't floor it enough (i'm on tip) or want to go faster using the manual tip shifts cuz i valued my life more (highly likely) I just felt a bit shocked on how far back i was getting left behind. I mean seriously. I was behind one that was going 55 and then all of a sudden when they had room they went 55 to FAST in like a snap. I didnt' realize what was happening until i noticed the sprint pattern but each time they sprinted and i tried to sprint it was like 3, 5, 10 carlengths. I'd just never seen such fast top end speed. I'm very happy with our cars from 0 -60 cuz that's probably the exetnt of my thrills and I'm still happy 0-60. I just never realized that with the big boys, its what happens after 60 that's a big deal.

Also I was thinking about it, dont' cars int he US have speed governors? I wonder how they got so fast. I know they all chipped it..but in that case, wouldnt' that be illegal?

I put this on another thread but check out a the familiar silver car about a third in..

http://heffner.speedandmotion.com/allanlambo.html

and no, i'm not affiliated with the site, i just like fast cars and they have good videos

The M5 is one of if not the fastest 4 door sedan ever made. Especially considering the number of cars made. There may be some Mercedes cars or Audis as fast. I doubt the Panamera will touch it. The Brabus E V12 (a modified Mercedes) was the only car I could find as fast on this page.

Anyone buying a Cayman and expecting a lot of power is going to be disappointed; it's that simple. I've had several high hp cars, and traded a C6 ZO6 for my Cayman S. The Cayman is a great car in many ways, and a much more enjoyable all-around street car that the Vette. But, at speeds over 80 or so, the difference in the two cars is very significant, and I will miss the ZO6 power on track. But, most other aspects of driving the Cayman are more satisfying.

You have to be an axxhole to drive on a public road at those speeds, period!
No excuses, just absolutely irresponsible behavior.
Sorry for my rant, but innocent people could pay a very high price for schoolboy behavior, grow up.
