Stories from Croctoberfest

Sunday, October 5th, the autocross event was held in Marietta, GA. The event was held in conjunction with Crocoberfest with a number of caymanclub.net members representing our car of choice well. I opted to drive the GT3 to Crocfest because I'm selling the Cayman S and it was in the shop getting the power steering fixed. So, all was going well until my 3rd run of the day at the autocross. The car felt unusually squirrely going through the corners. Unbelivable I didn't spin. I knew something was wrong and limped into paddock. You see below the carnage. However, remarkably, although the tire was toast, the wheel was undamaged.

So, we get the car up on jacks, get the wheel off and see that the tire was badly corded on the inside. I know better! I should have checked the tires very closely before running the car. I'm pretty embarrased about that but you live & you learn. The tires were fine before I left Texas. But that was 700 miles before hand. Pilot Sport Cups do wear out, especially with as much camber as I have dialed in. Anyway, some of the nice folks hosting the AX gave Jeff & the wheel a lift to the nearest NTB where amazingly, they had a 295/30/18! I have a guardian angel that's also a race fan. Jeff get's back to paddock and we get the tire on. Now we have to get back to NTB to get the other rear tire (they had two of them for me! amazing, I tell ya). Except Jeff doesn't quite remember the way because, well, we're not from around these parts. And he wasn't paying attention from all the excitement. I give the terrific folks at NTB a call on this spectacular Sunday afternoon (they were open on Sunday!!!) and ask for directions. So the fella says, keep coming down Cobb Industrial Parkway and turn right at the big chicken. "The big chicken?", I ask skeptically. Yes, the big chicken, he says. Well, wouldn't you know it, we came upon none other than a big chicken. I tell Jeff, you gotta get a picture of that! I was actually on the phone with K-Man S at that very moment and he said the same thing - get a picture! It was a Kentucky Fried Chicken and the whole building was a chicken. The beak actually opened and closed and the eyes rolled! I am not joking! Was the funnest thing I've ever seen. So, if you ever need tires when in Marietta, hang a right at the big chicken.

Caygirl was nice to meet you at the Wednesday night Jim Ellis event. Your GT3 is beautiful, wish I could have made the exhaust shootout. Yes the Big Chicken is a famous Atlanta landmark. Most directions in that part of town start with go to the big chicken and .... Did you notice that the eyes and beak move?

Yes, I couldn't believe it when I saw the beak open & close and the eyes roll around. Wonder how many accidents happen at that intersection.

Was great to meet you too!

Crocfest story number two....

So I'm at the Jim Ellis Wednesday night get-together and I walk up to these handsome, obviously caymanclub.net members... I say, "Hi, I'm caygirl". David says "Hi, I'm In2Esses." We shake hands and I turn to the other gentleman and he says, "I'm Shellshocked" to which I reply, "Really? Why's that?". So he begins his explanation and it dawns on me, that's his member ID and not a physical ailment. Hey, I'm blonde. And darn proud of it!

I'll post some of my stories in due time, have to get the kids to bed and my throat is raw so I'm not at 100%. Thanks for sharing the pics, wish I could have taken more myself but I'm loving all the ones that members are starting to upload and I can't wait to read the Croctoberfest stories for Excellence!

My short stories (no such thing coming from me)

Thursday:
1. Lunch in Asheville with Pistol Pete and entourage from Zone 1.
2. Escorting Pistol Pete and entourage out of Asheville to Atlanta, via some twisties.....except local NC CC member Westby joins at the last second and is out of fuel in gasless NC!!!
3. Hunt for fuel for a while.....lose about 1 hour of trip time.
4. Finally split the group up in order to make up time. Half come with me, half continue to search for fuel.
5. The half that go with me......well we get behind a friggin MOPED during the most anticipated portion of the trip.....Ceasars Head Mountain (SC 276) just outside Brevard NC.
6. We dust the MOPED on the twisties only to get held up my Gramma from Ontario in a Toyota going 20 mph........for 22 miles we suffered!
7. The drooling teenage boys at the Lake Keowee BP station who want to know "how fast that car is".....(ask yourself...exactly how do you answer that question?)
8. Get to the (awesome) Kinetic Speed Shop....only to see that Westby and the other half of the caravan had BEATEN us to the shop. WTF? How? And they even went further North into NC to Highlands, NC. THAT....is what getting behind a moped will do for ya! BARF! KICK! SCREAM!
9. Seeing all the awesome cars at Kinetic.
10. Meeting new people at Kinetic.
11. Having drinks with Swamee (Dominque and wife Jackie).....they are funny as hell.

Friday
1. Heading out to my private car detailing appointment at 6:00 am only to find out that the address on their website is their HOME address......in Sandy Springs Ga..... The SHOP is right under my nose at the hotel. Now that cuts into the amount of time you have for a detail when the SHow n Shine starts at 8:30 am!
2. Winning all red taillights at the Show n Shine raffle!
3. Watching CC member "Gloss-It" give my car a great make over with is miraculous products!
4. Checking out the nice bodies at Jim Ellis!
5. Skipping out of the Awards banquet to quickly go find a silver sharpie so Suneet and I could get Vic Elford (guest speaker) to autograph our black race helmets.
6. Watching the fun when Swamee (et. al.) are beaten in a close finish for the gimmick rally trophy by Crocket-Man (et.al.) only to find out that SpinDoc handed out the wrong trophies to each of them.....so Swamee ends up with the firsat place trophy anyway....ahhhhh the squabble. LOL.
7. Having drinks with Suneet, SpinDoc, GatorBite and Ina, Chad and Dodge Donkey.....great time! (Dodge Donkey.....hee haw....hee haw...now THAT is a funny story)

Saturday
1. Sunrise drive to Road Atlanta, following Suneet....
2. Porsche VIP lounge (thanks SpinDoc!)
3. Petit Le Mans.....MAN those cars are FASSST!
4. Meeting Helio!
5. Checking out the bodies in the pit areas!
6. Exciting finish at Le Mans!
7. Sprayed by champagne at the podium celebration!

Sunday
1. Seeing the longest Ax course ever at the PCA event.
2. Finishing first in my category at the Ax!
3. Longest wait for lunch........ever. Contemplating eating my own fingers! lol

Now....for those that missed Croctoberfest.....you really missed it! I had a blast!
