Crazy Dealer visit

I changed my oil after 1200 miles and wanted to give my dealer a copy of the oil analysis report. On the way over my check engine light came on (AGAIN). Got to the dealer, plugged her in and the code had something to do with the CAT. The dealer says its bad gas and to switch. I told him I used BP, he says 'Belgian Piss' switch to Chevron. OK what the heck. The dealer calls back later and wants to know 'Why Ichanged my oil so soon?'. Habit I say.'What oil did you use?' Mobile1 I say. 'What weight' better be 0-40 or could be warrantproblems. WHAT? Does the manual state we have to use Mobile 1 0-40 or we void the warranty? By the way we did use 5-40. Is that a bad thing?

OH yea, I also get a high pitch in the stereo after and hour on the road.

Any suggestions.......

So what did the oil analysis report say? I don't think you'll have a problem with 5-40 vs. 0-40, but you should try to use 0-40 if you can find it since that is what Porsche recommends. I concur about the misinformed comment made by fab944.

the owner's manual states that SAE 0W-40, 5W-40 and 5W-50 are recommended viscosities when the temp's generallyabove -13F, they only state that 0W-40 be used when the temp's generally below -13F

I was told that if the car would be tracked even 15W50 is a good choice otherwise 5W50. And yes please tell us if the oil report showed anything ?

Hey Mike, Don't worry I'm heading to JAX baby ( for my next P wagon).

The oil analysis said the copper content was above normal. The HH dealer said it was nothing to worry about, but I plan to keep a close eye on it during the next oil change.

Anybody else experiencing a high whine on the stereo after it warms up?

I've used Amoco Ultimate for many years (which is BP now) and never had a problem in three BMWs, one Boxster, an 83 MB 380SL, and a G35 Infiniti.

mooty, the dealer appears to have blamed the light on the gas. I suspect it was probably the gas cap.

As many have said, the dealer sounds 'mis-informed'. I highly doubt BP caused the problem...unless it was something in that dealers tank.

There is another mention of bad cat converters here (and a comment that more than one car has had the issue). Potential problem?

Bad gas is going to affect the whole catalytic system. For instance lead will react with the platinium over time and destroy its effectiveness. Was there a manufacturing defect in the catalytic converter?
