I finally took a test drive yesterday, and I'm hooked. My only concern is interior space. At 6'2' and 250lb, it feels a bit snug. I plan on going back to the dealer next week to try some different seats, and was wondering what seat others have found to provide the most legroom. Does the power seat package give more adjustment latitude than the manual adjust? How about the adaptive sport seats? Any tall drivers out there have them?
Fact one: No matter what seat you get, you will not be able to fully stretch out your legs like in a Carrera or other car.
Fact two: Because of the shape of the engine compartment (it's slanted), the higher up the seat, the farther back it goes. This means if the seat position is vertically at the bottom, there is less leg room than if you raise the seat.
Fact three: The biggest problem I had when I was test driving was the steeting wheel getting in the way of my legs.
In answer to your questions, I do not believe one seat or the other will provide more leg room for you. They simply provide better support or more adjustments. One recomendation I do have is to very seriously consider the Sport Steering wheel. It is about a 1/4" smaller diameter than the regular wheel and believe it or not, it makes a big difference with respect to the wheel getting in the way of your legs.
Can I assume that with time you have gotten used to it, and now find it comfortable?
Thanks for the reply - good observation on the engine compartment. I'll try raising the seat a bit.

Well, I've only had my Cayman S 2 days...I haven't gone on a long drive yet. (for shame, ). I actually credit this group of folks for telling me about the 'raise-to-go-farther-back' solution.
I am 6'0' and tried all three seats. For me, I found myself fiddling a bit to get a god positoin (still do) so i liked the power seats--which is what i have. i do not have the sport steering wheel but wish i did (dealer wants too mch $ to switch out and i bought my car off the lot) as it does honestly provide about 1/4-1/2 inch knee room.
I don't own one yet, but in the Cayman's that I've been in the sport steering wheel seems to make a big difference for my comfort. I'm 6ft and 230, but my legs are long (and big).
edit Woo Hoo, this post seems to give me my third star!
I'm 6'4' 180lbs. A great point about the smaller diameter steering wheel. I never thought of that, but my legs do hit the steering wheel. I do have the Sports Steering Wheel, so obviously it would be worse without it.
Withno shoesI can stretch my legs straight, with feet behind the pedals. With the seat all the way back,my knee has no bend when pushing in the clutch. So I actually have the seat forward a bit. SoI think legs room is ok.
At 250lbs I'd thinkwidth would be a bigger problem than hieght, so I'd saySport Seats are out.
But remember the seats are supposed to give lateral support, I feel snug even with my skinny self.
The first time I sat in a Cayman, is it was simply to see if I fit. At 6'3'200 lbs, most sports cars (including the last generation boxster)have been off limits to me but I was delighted to find that with both the standard and manual sport seats there was room to spare! I haven't tried the Adaptive Sport seat yet, but I was very comfortable in the basic sport seat so I hadn' given it much thought. Good luck.
I visited several dealers this weekend and one salesman remarked that I should consider the power seats because of my height (6'2'). He said there was more room vertically i.e. headroom and ostensibly legroom below the wheel, because the power mechanism took up less space under the seat than the manual gizmo. Since he wasn't pushy or trying to load up the options on me, I have no reason to doubt him. The only cars he had were power seats, so I couldn't compare. Also, I'd be ordering a car, so he wasn't motivated by moving his stock either.
I'm 6 feet and 250 lbs, and find the Cayman sports seats to be fine. Actually, too busy driving to really notice. But did put the seat higher and back, but not all the way back. ==RedEye
I am 6' at 175 lbs, my problem is I still have a hard time getting in and out of the car without kicking the door panels or sliding down the side of the leather seat. I am very carefull to sit first and then swing my legs in last. How do you big guys do it?

Aloha Russ
I plant my right foot in first, move the rear end into the seat and then pull the left leg in. I am scuffing the kick plate a bit but trying not to.
Thanks for all the replies, everyone. I took another visit to the dealer yesterday and found that the standard seat with manual adjust worked ok for me. As suggested, I raised the seat up a bit (first visit it was all the way down) and that seemed to make more room. I found the sport seat upper bolsters were a bit too close together for me - hit my shoulder blades. I've heard of a device that locks the lap part of the seat belt in place, rather than being tensioned by the inertia reel. Maybe that will be a way to hold me in place instead of the sport seats.
At 6' 220# I took the sport seats and am glad for it every day.... I am able to get the seat far enough back that it becomes a stretch for me to put the clutch all the way in. I have to move it up about 3 notches to be comforable shifting.... And on looonnngg trips they are soooo comfy
I'm 6ft 1in 185lbs and i went with the standard seats with power. I can stretch my legs out all the way and i find the seats to be perfect. i sat in all of the seats - i spent about an hour at a dealership with all three and i wound up going with the standard seats. The sport seats felt a bit too snug, and in Florida, i was afraid they might be too warm some days.
As a side note, I also have an '06 M5 with adaptive sport seats - the bolsters dynamically kick in as you go around corners - more g's, more grip. It really does work. But i leave the seat in normal position most of the time and they feel like the standard seats i have in the Cayman.
