Front mud/gravel deflector?....

i was putting on my third coat of zaino polish this morning and i noticed some small rock and gravel dings in the paint near the rear intake. after considering what might have caused this i noticed that because my wheels stick out just a little beyond the well in the front, it is probably due to gravel or other road debris that is getting kicked up into this area from the front wheels. some of you with spacers or aftermarket wheels may be noticing the same thing. i did a little searching but i cant find a front 'mud gaurd' if you will, for the cayman. the rear already has something in place as seen in the pic below...

has anybody seen one for the front? or is there one for the boxster that might fit? any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.....im gonna have to make sure im more careful until i find a solution....

RedRocket - Not a good think with the chips. But had you considered having a 3M-Bra installer make you up several small custom Bra's for those areas?

Before you jump to the dealer you could give Alan a call and possibly get a referral in the Charlotte area. I would bet any one that he’d deal with could do it.

your p dealer charge you only $600 for the Clear armor?

Are you a frequent customer there? what makes the price to be so low?

thanks

I've noticed that my car is picking up a lot of stonechips. I have a clear bra on the front, but when I polished it yesterday I have small chips on the passenger door, a couple on top of the rear wings. Also, the inside of the wheel arch behind the rear wheels is 'peppered' after only 1,600 miles. It seems that these 'sticky', wide tyres are going to slowly sand-blast the car ! I don't drive on gravely roads, or down tracks. Also the wheels themselves are picking up little chips on the 19' Carrera Classics. I never leave the car unattended and I'm the only driver, so they're all occuring when I'm driving. Anyone else notice a high level of chips ?

RR - sorry about that. I think you confirmed my fear of coupling my gravel road and wheel spacers. Are you going to get the chips air brushed out before protecting it? I have a theory that wax is a better protector than a polish like Zaino for this kind of thing. Any idea?

Yeah, I'm getting the same thing without wheel spacers... The textured 'rocker panels' along the bottom of the doorhave lots of nics too. I thinkit's a losing battle, short of covering the entire bottom half of the car with the clear plastic.

Tokz,

Sounds awful expensive to me. My dealer charged $700 for full front + mirrors. They charged $50 to have both door edges done.

I don't have wheel spacers either, but I'm a bit disappointed with number of chips already, after all in Germany these cars can be theoretically run at much higher speeds for a continuous period than anywhere else in the world.

My clearbra installation came with these areas done...my problem however is small chips right near the air intake grill.

RR,

The plastic in front of the rear tires is an air spoiler, I know because Porsche informed me during service that mine was shattered, yes a rock on an on ramp enrout to the dealer had hit the plastic air spoiler and split it in half, still awaiting the replacement part ( two weeks now). Would a rear mounted mud flap on the fronts have prevented this ??? rick
