I just put up a video from a test drive in Ibiza Spain. It is 10MB in size, just over 1 minute in length. You MUST right click and choose 'save target as' on the download link to save the file.
If someone could MIRROR this file I would appreciate it as I don't have the bandwidth for a lot of simultaneous video downloads. Please post mirror locations in this thread!
Pretty cool, at least we're inside and driving now. Engine soundsdeeper than I expected!
I can't tell if the driver is 'wowing' at the scenery or the car... both, I suspect.
Pretty annoying noise when he holds the camera out the window.... LOL
Thanks to all for the great site! Although I've decided it's making the wait worse, I can't pry myself away. And if I do, I'm afraid it will only be tostake-outthe dealer, waitingfor their demo. Do they make pills for me?
Noticed the comments about 'who'd want these used cars'. They'll be sold as 'pre-owned executive demonstrators' ; -)
I counted 78 cars in the lineup at the assembly point. In a real mass produced vehicle (100,000+ units a year), pre-production can run into the hundreds - I wonder if the Caymans used in Ibiza were pre-production?
Manufacturers tend to scrap pre-production cars, BYW. Seems a shame.
Apple QuickTime 6.0 or better. I also made a windows video 9 (wmv) file but it came in at 20mb and seemed to lose some clarity so I put up the smaller 10mb .mov file instead. Hope that helps!
I'll check into making an MPEG file and see if that is any smaller than the wmv file.
Ok I put up a new version of the same video in Windows Media format (wmv) and by tweaking the settings I got the video crisper and the size down to 5mb vs. the QT version.
When you get the pop-up with the file details right click on the download link and save target as to save the file to your hard drive then view it with Windows Media player (if viewing the wmv version), otherwise use Quick Time to view the mov file.

my dealer told me that he is there right now and that these cars would be delivered to the US dealers in November as demos ....... not for sale until January ?????
so the pre-owned executive demostrators makes sence.

That means they're not pre-production.
Hmmm, wonder what kind of a deal can be had and how weill refurbished they'll be? 'Empty the ashtray and stick a new pine tree on the rearview, Gerhard' ; -)
Hey I'd take one of those fully optioned SC/PASM/PCCB/Interior Design, etc. somewhat abused Caymans for say $20K off MSRP sounds about right...
PASM - Porsche Active Suspension Management
This active damping system offers continuous adjustment of individual damping forces based on current road conditions and driving style.
The driver can choose from two setup modes, ‘Normal’ and ‘Sport’, using a separate ‘damper’ button on the center console. ‘Normal’ mode is designed for general road driving and circuits with uneven tarmac. ‘Sport’ mode is intended for smoother track surfaces, where the harder settings help eliminate pitch and roll.
In either mode, PASM continuously evaluates the current conditions while automatically selecting the corresponding damper rates from the respective set of mapped values.
A range of sensors are used to monitor the movement of the body under acceleration, braking and cornering maneuvers, as well as on poor road surfaces. The PASM control unit then evaluates this data and modifies the damping force on each individual wheel in accordance with the selected mode. The result is a significant reduction in body movement as well as a better grip on the road.
For example: if ‘Sport’ mode is selected, the suspension is automatically set to a harder damper rating. If the quality of the track surface falls below a certain threshold, the system immediately changes to a softer rating within the ‘Sport’ setup range. When the quality of the tarmac improves once more, PASM automatically returns to the original, harder rating.

Wishful thinking. My guess is that with all of the glowing press about the Cayman S, the Porsche dealers will have no trouble getting nearly MSRP for these 'used' Caymans.
