Porsche needs to do a recall of these flawed keys and fix the darn remote on them. I've walked up to my carto find the hood or the trunk opened a good dozen times. Today I found both open. I even have the key all by itself, not even a key ring and it still gets activated. I had put other keys with it and had to remove it within two days because it got ridiculous how much it was getting activated. We got a $60K+car with key reliabilitynot worthy of a base Hyundai. I'm filing a complaint about this. What happens if you have valuables stolen from your car because of the stupidflawedkeys left the hood/trunk open and you didn't know? Is Porsche going to pay for your loss? I know somebody came up with a temp fix here. But we shouldn't have to hassle with that. Besides, what happens if you mess them up in the process. Porsche sure as hell isn't going to pay for them. I suggest we all start filling complaints to shame Porsche into fixing this ridiculous problem.
I am laughing, but not at you......becuase I feel your frustration! This key has continued to piss me off ever since I got my car. The dozzie is when I get a horn blast in the face while under the front lid. This occurs when I have accidentially locked the doors and did not know it.
I believe your 'muscle memory' will improve after a bit and it will become a non-issue. After a few incidents it became second nature to take care of the key better and now I've not had a problem for awhile (I probably just jinxed myself...) I'm a lefty and keep my key in my left pocket for easy use with the left side igniton which is perfect for me.
I have to agree the key is f4cking rubbish ! I went out with my wife on Friday night to a lovely country pub for a meal. We waited for a table as the pub was pretty busy. We finally got a table with a great view.....my Cayman. My wife kept commenting that she though I seemeddistracted and not very attentive! Well on my left side I could see my wife and on the right side I could see my Cayman and the cars driving past it. I even saw a guy walk up to it and peer through the window. I then noticed that the interior lights were on, so I flew out to the car to find the trunk was open ! Yep, the key in my pocket had popped it from over 60 feet away ! So for the rest of the night I left the key on the table, which is a pretty stupid place for to be ! I've lost count the number of times the car has either locked or unlocked itself when the key has been in my pocket......it really is a poor design
Same here. You can't put the key in a pocket or hold anything else in the same hand without the risk of popping one of the trunks. They should borrow the new Audi key design - I have an A3 and it is very well designed.
Fiebru, if you want to put some kind of class complaint together, I'm sure you'll get a lot of signatures.
Seems to me that spending the kind of money we are on these cars, it is something that Porsche should rectify at their cost. I would hate to undertake the modification only to ruin my key and then have to run the 5 hour jaunt to the local porsche dealer to get the key replaced.
Booster, the worst part is you'll have to pay to have it replaced. And I doubt we're talking less than $200. Like you said man, Porsche should fix this **** on their dime. This pricey car shouldn't have such a problem. I would have to assume you would win a law suit against them if something of high value got stolen from your car because of this issue. So they better get with the program. It is totally unacceptable. I'm going to call the dealer tomorrow to find out what options if any we have.
Santa Fe, like I said, I don't even have anything else with it that could activate it, not even a ring.
Zornet, I like those a lot, but wouldn't feel comfortable wearing one. I would use it to the track if that's all I used my Cayman for.
Rudy - I do feel your pain and understand the possibly of un-comfortably of wearing one. But the benefit is now as my key is never scratched by other objects in the pocket, as its under the my shirt.

+1...I'm with you man. It is the cheapest excuse for a keyfob that I have ever seen and is not worthy of accompanying a Skoda nevermind a 60K plus Porsche!!! The key has been just sitting in my pocket and I am 30 feet from the damn car, and I bend over to tie my shoelace, and bam, there goes my hood. I reach into my pocket, and bam, there goes the trunk. Sometimes I just want to stamp on the damn thing. Grrr.
Why isn't that a design issue that Porsche should cover under warranty? It seems so many people complain from the same thing. Porsche could design and manufacture a new key and send to previous owners programmed for their vehicles.
