How often will you change the oil?

My dealer offers a free oil change @ 10k km. I changed the oil every 5000km in my previous car. How often will you do it on your Cayman?

The poll has four sections. First section has four options

1) Change oil every 5000km

2) 10000km

3) 15000km

4) 20000km!

The second section: Change of filter?

1) Change filter with every oil change

2) Change filter with every2 oil changes

3) Change filter with every 3 oil changes

The third section: Who does it?

1) Porsche dealer

2) DIY / local mechanic / petrol station

Forth section: If DIY / local mechanic / petrol station: How will you do it?

1) Drain the oil

2) Suck it out

I think this will cover everything concerning changing the oil! The poll allows users to select multiple choices. PLEASE SELECT ONE CHOICE FROM EACH SECTION!

hmmm... Just to tell you that thte percentages in the results won't mean much.. you'll have to kinda manually work out the percentages of each 'section'... I should have created likethree different polls for it.

hehehe... I was just checking the results.. and so far we have

<table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2" width="100%" align="center" border="0">
<tbody>
<tr>
<td bgcolor="#e0e3ea">Get it done by Porsche dealer: </td>
<td width="90%" bgcolor="#e0e3ea">3(23%) </td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td bgcolor="#e0e3ea">DIY / local mechanic / petrol station: </td>
<td width="90%" bgcolor="#e0e3ea">0(0%) </td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td bgcolor="#e0e3ea">Drain it down: </td>
<td width="90%" bgcolor="#e0e3ea">1(8%) </td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td bgcolor="#e0e3ea">Suck it out: </td>
<td width="90%" bgcolor="#e0e3ea">0(0%) </td>
</tr>
</tbody>
</table>

Now.. so far, no one voted for the DIY/local mechanic/petrol station option... so how come we have a guy who's gonna drain it down...

anyway... read the post before you vote.... I knew I should have done this in a different way ;-)

when i bought my cayman the sales guy told me not to worry about the oil except once a year or every 20K miles. I thought that sounded like alot of miles and time before a change so I decided i would get it at 5K miles and then decide after that how often. When i called to schedule my oil change for next week the service department told me that on the porsche cars (not the cayenne) the oil should be changed every 7K miles and the flter at the same time. I think thats probably what I will stick to.

As for the DIY'ers....from what I heard from the service dept. (of course they are biased), its a bear to do if you dont have a lift.

So non of you have come across this little machine that sucks the oil out of the engine? We have them all over the petrol stations here and it seems to be the standard practise around here...

I think I'll do it every 10000 km at the dealer.

The mechanics at my dealership on LI have gone WAY WAY out of their way during my 9 years of boxster ownership...often at little or no money for disgnostic time. I feel that oil and brakefluid changes (where they *beat* the clock and make some money) are a little way of me saying thanks.

Others may say 'why pay more?' I say...it's a two way street, and they've done for me quite a bit.

It's my way of saying I appreciate it!

One dealership in Northern CA is advertising $99 oil &amp; filter change. It does NOT include the use of a loaner car.

Northern CA sounds like a friendly cost of living adjustment- in the right direction! Just did my change- at the dealer, at 5500 miles with 250 on the track. when i was in the shop with the head tech and asked if I should change after every event he asked, if F1 ever starts a race with used oil? he said it is the cheapest preventative maintenence. Hmm that makes sense to me. ok done, after every track event I will change the oil. then i turned to my service guy and asked how much oil do i hold...anyway, long story short, an oil change (10 qts. mobil 1)with filter and one hour labor came to $252. no bargain. then i said I'd do it myself and the tech said not without a lift you wont. end of story. i will wait till 10k.

Which Porsche Dealership do you go to for oil change? I live in San Francisco. Do you need coupon for the $99 oil change? I am going to pick up my Cayman this Friday.
Thanks for your input
